quick q on 1969 side pipe exhaust

Was just wondering if they were straight from the engine to the outlet, or if there were any sort of mufflers involved?

reason being, my one is bloody loud D) but I don't know if its legal in Australia. It is original though, and will try to fight it with that being my excuse

Is it possible to put a not-externally-visible muffler on the side pipes?

Nik,
If they are original design sidepipes they come straight from the exhaust manifolds and the mufflers are inside the sidepipes and not servicable. If they are Hooker headers and sidepipes the mufflers are slip in units and can be replaced.
