radiator hose engine inlet houseing won't seal?

Most likely the T-stat hsg. is warped or cracked. Easy fix is to purchase a new O-ring designed T-stat housing and install. Be careful when you tighten the bolts as you can warp or crack these also. I always put a flat washer under the head of the bolt even though it not suppose to require them. Tighten down to snug and 1/4 turn of the bolt and you are good to go. No sealer required with o-ring type t-stat hsg. and it is reusable.

Are you sure you have the thermostat installed the right direction? Also, it takes very little off center of the thermostat to cause the housing not to seat right.
