I have a question I hope you folks can help me out with. Ever since I bought my '91, it's had this annoying issue with the stereo. It still has the factor stereo/CD/casette player, and I'd like to keep them. That orange glow is pretty cool, and they are factory original elements to the car.
But the stereo has has two issues I can't figure out. Firstly, it has an audible buzz, almost like there's a ground fault somewhere. Although I've inquired about it- my first thought was that the after-market alarm and remote start feature the previous owner put on it might not be correctly grounded- no joy. The connections on the remote start appear perfectly grounded. Did the '91 originally come with an amplifier, and if so, where would it be? Could a bad amp actually be the problem? If it's not- man, there's a mess of wiring I'm basically worried about having to dig through.
Second problem involves the CD player. In a nutshell, it needs coaxing to accept, and then play CD's. It's almost as though the CD player needs a warm up period of a half an hour before it will function properly. I have to keep turning off the stereo, putting the CD in the slot, and turning the stereo on in order to get it to take the CD- almost like I'm training it. Getting it to eject the CD involves turning it off and pushing eject- it won't eject at first while the stereo is on. Over a period of a half hour or so, the CD player will eventually warm up to the point where it will accept and eject CD's without having to go this tedious routine, then it becomes a case of repeatedly inserting and ejecting the CD until it actually reads it.
What do you folks think? Can this be fixed? Or should I start looking for an aftermarket stereo? (A thought I'd rather avoid. I'd rather keep the factory original stereo if I can.) What would you recommend?
