I have a question I hope you folks can help me out with. Ever since I bought my '91, it's had this annoying issue with the stereo. It still has the factor stereo/CD/casette player, and I'd like to keep them. That orange glow is pretty cool, and they are factory original elements to the car.

But the stereo has has two issues I can't figure out. Firstly, it has an audible buzz, almost like there's a ground fault somewhere. Although I've inquired about it- my first thought was that the after-market alarm and remote start feature the previous owner put on it might not be correctly grounded- no joy. The connections on the remote start appear perfectly grounded. Did the '91 originally come with an amplifier, and if so, where would it be? Could a bad amp actually be the problem? If it's not- man, there's a mess of wiring I'm basically worried about having to dig through.

Second problem involves the CD player. In a nutshell, it needs coaxing to accept, and then play CD's. It's almost as though the CD player needs a warm up period of a half an hour before it will function properly. I have to keep turning off the stereo, putting the CD in the slot, and turning the stereo on in order to get it to take the CD- almost like I'm training it. Getting it to eject the CD involves turning it off and pushing eject- it won't eject at first while the stereo is on. Over a period of a half hour or so, the CD player will eventually warm up to the point where it will accept and eject CD's without having to go this tedious routine, then it becomes a case of repeatedly inserting and ejecting the CD until it actually reads it.

What do you folks think? Can this be fixed? Or should I start looking for an aftermarket stereo? (A thought I'd rather avoid. I'd rather keep the factory original stereo if I can.) What would you recommend?

Do a search for Bose on this forum and you will find out more than you want to know.
The Bose is problematic. The buzz in the speakers will be one or more of the Amps. Listen to each speaker to determine which one/s bad. You can buy new ones, have yours rebuilt, or have a go at fixing them yourself. Here is a link to a do it yourself site http://www.batee.com/corvette/
The CD problem can be fixed for under $200. There are several shops around the country that do a rebuild for a fixed price.

SpanishVettes-
Muchas Gracias for the info. (I'm afraid that's as much Spanish as I know.)

Regarding the speakers, the buzz is clearly coming from the rear. I'm far less concerned about the prospect of replacing a speaker- I could cheerfully replace them with something newer more technically superior to the factory ones, as long as they fit the current covering so that no one can tell they're new speakers. I got a copy of MidAmerica's Corvette magazine, and they seem to have some pretty nice deals on speakers.

On the subject of the rebuild of the current CD player, am I looking for a specialty electronics place, an aftermarket parts place, a specialty car audio place...? I just need to be pointed in the right direction.

Oh... and after I posted this, only then did I realize we have a car audio forum. Another mistake by a newbie. Sorry folks.

Do not worry about the Spanyola, I am a red white and blue, borne in the USA, card carrying all American boy. :pat I just happen to live in Spain due to a series of life`s quircks. (and because I can drive my cars/bikes at very high speed with out getting tickets) :Steer
Franco in the Vette is just for fun. :D

Back to your radio problem. Look through these post. I remember several post about various shops that specialize in Bose repair. http://corvetteactioncenter.com/for...showresults&searchid=88747&sortby=&sortorder=
