I bought my car about 3 years ago, realizing that it was the SA, didn't think anymore about it. Was wandering around on Ebay a few months later, seen a car like mine with the Blue leather interior, the guy selling it advertised that it was "rare, less than 100 made with the Blue" So that peaked my curiousity. Bought a few books did a bit of research. Bottom line, still don't have an honest answer. I did find that the suggested interior for the two tone silver option was Black, Oyster white and Silver. I have seen a few red leather interior's out there.

Bottom line, does anyone have any ideas? is mine one of "less than 100 made" or what? does anyone know how I can find out?

Thanks for any help!

I went to the "Model Center" tab and looked at the production numbers here . But it doesn't show that the Silver Anniversary exterior came with any interior colors other than Black, Oyster, or Red. :confused

Yes, this is what I thought. There were only three interior option colors for the Silver Anniversary paint. I have never heard of the blue interior. Maybe it is custom? How many previous owners were before you with your Corvette? How extensive do you know her history?

Simple answer, what is your trim code#?

I don't think...

...that there is any way to prove "less than 100 made".

The records for these early vettes were lost and unless EVERY 1978 build sheet is produced...we will NEVER know.

It has also been stated that by ordering different options, each vette is going to be unique with few being exact. Rare in my thoughts, is something that no one else has. Not just a 'different' color or option combination.

Agree with MVFTW, what's the trim code say?

This may have been a change over from one of the orginal colors. Like mvftw said, we need the trim codes.. A true SA exterior code will be 13/07... This car may have had a new paint job to make it look like a SA...

Locating the trim plate

Open your driver's door and look at the frame just to the left of your headlight knob. There should be a metal plate with TRIM and PAINT with combos of numbers and letters in between.

Just after TRIM will be your interior code.
My Silver Anniversary reads: TRIM 122 13U 07M PAINT
122 is my oyster leather interior
13U and 07M are the two tone Silver Anniversary paint

Thanks for all the reply's! I am still confused! (could be cause I am a blonde female)

The Door Plate says:

Trim 292
Paint 13/07

according to the model Center 292 is Blue Leather.....

Any suggestions?

The codes look correct but the black book does not list the code 292 Blue Leather for a Silver Anniversary ..... You may have a rare SA there...

My info tells me 292 is code for dark blue leather but only available with blue, white, silver or light beige.

Look in the model center, 292 is Dark Blue/leather and there was 3200 plus with this option.

I seen that in the Model Center, thanks Mike. But of the 3200 plus made, how many where the S/A paint?

Any idea's on finding that out?

yes'm, I saw a post last night with 1-800 number to GM, I saw where B-O-R was standard options, but you can special order things with dealers at least you could in old days. years ago you could get your car built versus produced. It may very well be special combo, check out the forum for the number and you'll get build sheet for car and you may be able to ask how many were built like yours.

That would be great to find out your vette truly is special! :J
I think a blue interior sounds like it would be beautiful with the SA paint.

I think it looks cool, but then again, I love the whole car!

As I mentioned in my first post, I stumbled across an ad on Ebay. I have since found another one on Ebay just recently. Including mine that makes 3. Any one else out there know of one?

Tee..... not likely GM will be any help. Most of the records from the St. Louis plant have long been gone. Most information that exists on these cars have been put together by folks on the net, The Corvette Black Book, ...etc. Even though the "Book" says you could only get it in Blue, White, Silver or Beige does not mean that the dealer pressured GM to order the car with non-typical color matched interiors. This is still the case even today as there are C5's out there in Yellow with the "unavailable" red interiors. They are affectionately known as Ronald McDonald Cars. The same can be said for my '81 that is the only known '81 delivered in primer gray paint. I have it verified on my Build Sheet but being a St. Louis '81, I'll never know for sure if there were any more. There are simply no records available. I've spent years researching this.

Not likely you'll ever know for sure either , but enough to say there's probably not a lot of the '78 SA's with your Dark Blue interior. And agree with everyone else; I'll bet it looks really great.

Good luck with your search........... Nut
