RE: LT1 Looses power and doesnt rev pased 3000rpm

I have a friend with a 1995 LT1 we are trying to fix. The car is a stock 5.7 6 speed with headers. No check engine light but the car will not run pased 3,000 to 3,500 rmp... So far we changed the plugs wires and MAF. No luck. at first it would pull passed that rmp but it was way to slow for a 5.7 now it wont even pass 3000 rpm. Under that it seems to work ok. And again to check engine light. Any help would be greatly appreciated.. Could it be a bad computer or Optispark? Would that generate a check engine? Also the cars temp is fine around 210 but the headers get extreamly hot.. More than normal. Can a cloged cat do that?

yes, a clogged cat will have symptoms that match your problem. You can pull it off, and install a 'test pipe' to check it out..

Have you tried to retrieve any (DTC"S)
codes?

No codes. Im checking the cat. I think its that. I'll let you know. I think the extreamly hot headers is a sure sign there is a problem with the cats..

My 95 Z28 an LT1 car did the exact same thing.... It was a clogged cat. I couldn't rev up. It only has a single cat, so the one single one was clogged up. Headers probably will get hot if there's a blockage in there.

Thanks everyone it sure was the cat... My friend just bought the car and didnt now much about these cars. When I drove it I knew something was really wrong.... Runs like a bat out a hell now...
