I have a 96 LT4 with OBDII.

Question; Can the codes be read out on the dash by jumping the connector like on OBDI system, or is the only way to read the codes is to use a scanner? :confused

You need a hand held scanner or scanner software.
If you want a low cost hand held that will do most of what you need in regards to reading and then clearing the codes try the Actron CP9135. You can find these at Sears, Autozone and a few other places.

I am a little confused, but that's not hard to do.:confused

I was looking at the Mid America’s catalog and they sell a "Gordon Killebrew's 1994-96 OBDll Diagnostic Grounding Plugs & Manual" for identifying fault codes. Does anyone know how he does it without a scanner?

Thanks for any help.;help

That's news to me. I could be wrong but it may be a typo. Have you tried to call Mid America and ask them if it really applies to a 96?

CKA_Racing, Thanks.

I checked out the site but it does not tell what pins to short and how the errors are displayed. Any idea where to get this info?

I believe that years '94 through '96 all have the ODBII connector. You should short pins 4 and 12 together to enter diagnostics mode. Short the pins with a paperclip and turn the ignition key to the ON position, but don't start it. It will list codes on the LCD. You should see C12 if codes are similar to the '95, which means there are no current codes.
