Ready to Start

After getting the inside of our house pretty much done... I will be starting on Rare81's new home. I won't be in a huge rush to finish it I'm retired and plan to take most of the winter to complete it

I snapped a few "Before Photo's" and once I'm done I'll take a few completed photo's. So far I tiled the house entry with "French Quarter Spicy Gumbo Hex tile" so I thought I better get a few photo's of the garage before it's done :eek

I have a lot of idea's on how I want it to turn out Some of you may know that I used black and white tile on the floor in the garage in Modesto, this time I'm going to make Rare's resting spot a bit more upscale...

It's been a slow process but I FINALLY have the place ready for the floor contractor to come in and coat the floor. That should be toward the end of next week, or the first of the next week. After that and I get my cabinets built, I'll refresh the photo's with the "Completed Photo's"

I think it's turning out pretty decent.

I added a 4-bulb florescent light fixture, even though it was for a suspended ceiling I made a frame and recessed it, also added two 6" round recessed lights, framed the exhaust vent, and put a new drop down ladder for the attic storage. Patched all the holes, and behind the old work bench was a hole the size of Texas... used to access the laundry water pipes, :eyerole

I finished the tile entry 1/2 to match the house (diagonal spicy gumbo) and the other 1/2 in a random pattern. Added Crown Molding and my personal paint touch, if you all knew how much I HATE to paint, you would really appreciate my patience getting that all done... I'd rather fight a wild boar than paint :dance..

I like the way the garage is coming along. I specially like the two-tone theme and logo-like stripe around the walls.

Just one question...Where is the wet bar going? You'll have to add a 6-outlet 20/amps circuit to run at least 4 blenders at the same time... and don't forget a spot for the poker table.:L

Bob, Spanish ~ I really enjoy doing tile work it just requires a bit of labor, but the results are stunning. In my "other life" I was Operations Manager for an Electric Utility, but I am also a fairly accomplished Electrician, so I enjoyed doing the lighting, and once I got the compound miter saw figured out, I had a blast doing the Crown Molding.

It's nice to do something and be able to step back from it and actually see progress or results, and being rather analretentive and a perfectionist... well you get the picture (for those of you that have seen Rare, you can't help but agree with this statement )

I've tried the HomeDepot epoxy garage coating and was very dissapointed, I've also done the vinyl Black & White Tile, and was somewhat OK with it, so my feeling is if you are going to do something, do it right the first time, so having the floor professional done seemed the best way to go. I'm really looking forward to it and hope it turns out as good as the contractor says it will

The floor was "Bead Blasted" then acid washed, all cracks filled, and the contractor spent about 4 hours plugging small holes in the concrete, then the next day you see them in the first photo, putting down a moisture barrier. On the Third day he put down the FIRST coat of epoxy, then the Fourth day he did another coat of epoxy and added the black/white/blue flake..

It looks marrvolus .

What a lot of people seem to not realize is: finding a competent contractor can be just as difficult as doing the job yourself. The results are proof that your decision making process and instincts were correct.

I think your floor is better looking than some floors I have seen in people's homes.

A couple quick replies:

My garage floor is about 25 years old.

Area covered with epoxy is 24' x 22'

The contractor used "Muscle Gloss" for the finish epoxy, the same product he uses for car dealerships and retail store floor covering.
