I just purchased a new radio for my 74 vette. I have also purchased new front dash pad speakers. I noticed the wireing on the new radio has wires for rear speakers, which my vette does not have. I am thinking about putting some in the rear comparment, but I don't know where to put them. I know so of you have done this and would like to know how you did it.
It went to a local shop and they wanted to sell me boxes to put the speakers in, but I do not want to fill up my rear compartment with radio speakers. Any help would be appreciated.

I think Corvette Central and probably other vendors sell a ported rear speaker box that fits nicely in the rear storage area and takes up very little room. Do a search on Google or ebay and you will find it.

You can make your own boxes inexpensively. I bought two boxes from the stereo store, a 1x8 and had some left over carpet. Cut the 1x8 to the width of the car, mount the boxes and cover the 1x8 with carpet and you are good to go. My t-tops fit back there no problem.

I agree with Bob Chadwick, you can make sweet boxes that fit tight and get great sound if you have the means and a bit of talent. I can post a shot of mine later but they are pretty much the same as the photo he has posted.I can put my tops in the back in the bag with no problem.
And look in the kick panel you may find another place for a 4" speaker.;)
Good luck, chas
