I have a 97 vette auto both turn signals on the rear are not working. The front is ok. I havent checked the bulbs but my running lights and Brake lights are working ok. It is the same bulb right? Is there a seperate relay or fuse for the rear lights.

Hi there,
Do your front signal flash normally, or do they just turn on, without flashing????
Do your hazards work????
If so, cycle your hazard switch a couple of times, and let us know if they work in the back.
Please keep us posted, c4c5:hb

Front lights flash ok and Hazards also work ok.

The rear left brake lights stopped working for 1/2 hour then started working ok when I turned the car off and on. I also had a problem with my ac display and the other night they worked it was Dim but it did work for a while till i turned the car off. I also reset about 20 codes I had in the computers history most of which were failure to communicate and the other day when I started the car most of them came back. I reset it again and haven’t seen it since. Obviously I’m having some sort of electrical problem. Can it be related to the ignition switch since I’m getting most of these problems when I start the car. Turning off and on the car fixes some problems then creates others. "I feel like im trouble shooting windows 2000 with all these restarts" Any suggestions.. Should I take it to the dealer or to an Electrical specialist. Thanks for your help once again.

Nope. The hazards will work ok. Does the hazards use the same flasher as the signal lights?

Hi there,
Actually, all brake light, signal lights, hazard lights are all channeled through the hazard switch. This also contains the flasher assembly.
However, I still am unclear, do the brake lights start to work correctly, after you have used the hazard switch, without doing anything else???????????????????????

Some times the brake lights will work after cycling the Hazard switch. The turn signals do not work regardless of what I do.

Ok, sounds to me like you need the hazard switch assembly.
You will have to remove the upper dash pad, in order to get to it, as it installs from the back of the pad, into the vent pocket.
Its a time consuming job, however, all you will need is a T15 torx driver, 10mm for the center console, and the 7mm for all the screws retaining the dash pad.
Please let us know how you make out, c4c5:hb

c4c5specialist, Thanks for all your help. I still havent had a chance to take everything apart as soon as I do I'll let you know if it works. There is no point in you helping us if we dont give you any feed back.. I havent done anything with the Tire pressure sensors either. Maybe next week I'll have some time. Thanks again for all your help.

c4c5specialist, I went to the dealer today to buy the hazard switch assembly. I noticed that its just a switch. I just want to make sure im buying the right part. Is that what I need to change or is there some relay behind it somewere that I need to buy. Let me know. Thanks again..

thanks, im doing it next week. I'll let you know if it works...

c4c5specialist, Thanks for all your again. If its not to much can you post a diagram of hot to take off the dash? Are there any hidden screws I should know about before I start pulling stuff off. Thanks again.

PIC1
This shows the fasteners hidden by the pillar trim panels, and the defroster grid.
Just pull the defroster grid up, and unlatch the sensor. To remove the pillar panels, just pull from the top, toward the shifter, and they will pop off.
Please remember to disconnect the battery before you attempt to start the job.
You will need a 10mm, and a T15 driver for the center console.
7mm for the fasteners on the IP pad itself.

PIC2
This shows the fasteners that are hidden by the glove box door, the center radio bezel, and the lower knee bolster.
Just remember, you do NOT have to remove the steering wheel.

PIC3
This shows how you will pull the IP pad away from the actual supports.
Just remember, you will see a plastic tab, which is held beneath the glove box assembly, so be cautious when pulling it away.
Since you never had done this, I would have one person hold the IP pad, and one move the glove box plastic out of the way.

Thanks for your help. The last gif file did not attach properly though. I ordered the manual so hopefully I wont be asking these questions. Thanks again.

Re Turn Signals

c4c5specialist, I changed the hazard switch and am still having the same problem. Using a tester I mad sure that the turn signal was working coming off the hazard switch. There is also a plug that the hazard switch plugs into and I also tested power there. Basically Im looking for a bad plug or a broken cable somewhere. In the back there is a plug under the car buy the muffler I also tested power there and there was none for the turn signals. There was power however for hazards and running lights. I tried to follow the cables to the front but once its under the car I cannot see it anymore. Any Idea were these cables comeout through and what I can check? Thanks again..

HI there,
Ok, well, you will have to check the wiring where it comes out of connector at the rear wheel house, behind the control arm.
After the wiring goes to the turn signal switch, and the output is the yellow, and the dark green.
It is an 8 pin connection, located attached to the frame, behind the rear control arm.
Please look for output of 12 volts, when the brake pedal, or the hazard switch is depressed, and flashing
Purple and brown are the output wires at the hazard switch.
Please keep us posted, c4c5:hb
