Crane Cams continuously improves and upgrades its cam designs. In some cases this may mean that two Crane Cams with the same part number may actually be different grinds. You must check the GRIND NUMBER stamped on the front of the camshaft and check it against the Grind Number near the top of the Spec Card. For more information on the finest available camshafts, valve train components, and automotive ignition products, visit your local Crane dealer or call the Crane Cams tech line at (386) 258-6174 or FAX (386) 258-6167

...I do have direct experience with an aussie-made timing set called "rollmaster" ... top quality!... JACK:gap

Jack, I agree. Before I could afford to buy the car I really wanted, the Vette, I had the 302 Clevelend in my F#$% Falcon rebuilt with a Rollermaster timing chain. I believe that is also what the boys put in the 350 on the Vette as well.

I had a look at the Crow Cams site.

I do not mind buying from the US, keeps our 'Postie' busy!

Cheers

Tony

Careful! ... even with stock 1.5 RAR, that crane 119831 roller looks like it'd be a LOT of cam. With YT 1.6 RAR it'd be more like .542"I /.563"E, 224°/232°. And its recommended springs will probably require machine work to heads ... heads off the car. On paper, roller duration can be deceptive. Typically, rollers have very STEEP ramps and WIDE noses ... their effective duration (area under the curve) is large. This is also measured/described in terms of "minor intensity" & "major intensity."

:eek

Mmmm, checked with Crane on the website. These are the springs they recommend with this cam. I also did a search based on a 1992 350 Vette engine and it came up with the same part number. The shop installed LT1 Vette springs, so I am guessing that these guys are the same rates. (I hope).

I'll do some more checking.

Cheers Jack

Dual Valve Springs

Crane Cams Dual valve springs are available for hydraulic, mechanical (“flat tappet”) and roller lifter camshafts, for street performance and all-out competition. Various designs are offered including dual, dual with flat dampers, different O.D. dimensions, with varying seat pressures and closed heights.
Crane Dual valve springs are selectively magnaflux inspected and checked for tension. Many “hard-core” springs are individually magnaflux inspected, tension matched and placed in sets. there's a place in California called "PAW" which stands for Performance Auto Wholesale. SBC stuff is DIRT cheap there. they also have their own line of cams and lifters called "SSI". last time I checked, a good SBC cam with lifters from them was around 100 bucks. I don't know the website, but I do know they are in Canoga Park, CA.

Stock spring pocket OD about 1.275" ... crane roller spring OD about 1.465" ... fact: WILL NOT FIT stock heads without machinework. These springs also require different retainers and are MUCH stronger than LT1 springs.

I don't know about OZ ... but I understand it's a big place with some millions of people and has a long and healthy motorsports history.

I'm gonna make a few suggestions ... but it's your car Tony.

I like roller cams too ... but not for every application ... I think you should forget roller cam.

In USA ... one of the most widely available brand names in replacement motor parts at many regular auto parts stores is "Sealed Power" ... there's Sealed Power at an auto parts store in even small towns. Well ... any store that sells Sealed Power also sells "Speed Pro" ... 2 groups in same company (that includes Fel-Pro gaskets)! ... Sealed Power is the "replacement" group and Speed Pro is the "performance" group. Again, I don't know if same in OZ ... but check local auto parts stores to see if they sell Sealed Power on a daily/stocking basis ... if so, they'll almost surely sell Speed Pro too. And if so, check/measure your spring height-spacing-coil bind ... diagnose your problem ... and if you need a new cam/lifters ... get another Speed Pro flat tappet hydraulic setup.

BTW, "Clevite" is another big name here ... widely available at most local parts stores ... Clevite also makes lots of cams and lifters (and Victor gaskets, Perfect Circle rings) ... both replacement & performance. Also, both Speed Pro & Clevite sell hot roller cams, lifters & springs. In USA, we don't have to go to a "speed shop" to get Sealed Power, Speed Pro & Clevite ... we can usually get it at a local auto parts store ... maybe you can do same in OZ.

Thanks Jack, yeah I got an email from Crane. Along with suggesting this cam they suggested kit 11307, which I could not find, but found 11308.
This kit consists of bigger springs, 99848.

I can go the Speedpro cam and lifters or install a simular flat tappet cam in the crane line up. Something around the same specs as the CS1013R and a set of lifters to match. The roller setup is something I want to do, but the 1.6:1 roller rockers are causing a bit of a headache with the numbers.
I still may need to look at these push rods.

I'll check out the cam with Crane again based on a hydraulic flat and see how I go. I am not real keen on installing another Speedpro cam. I do like the felpro gaskets and have a set of rubber valve cover gaskets on the Vette right now. Much better gasket, especially when comparing with a cheap cork job. It is still cheaper to source a Crane cam from the US, about $150.00 AU difference in the roller cam alone!

I'll see what Crane suggests.

Cheers

Tony
