Has anyone else had leakage problems with their replaced remanufactured steering control valves purchased from places like autozone or checker? I've now replaced this component twice and it keeps leaking out of where the boot goes over where the pitman arm goes. I'm getting VERY ANNOYED. I can't tell if its something I'm doing when I'm installing it or if these remans from places like that are just junk. Any ideas?

I got mine from Joe Ray Parts in Arkansas (www.joerayparts.com) - came from Lone Star in Texas; no problems, no leaks, works great.

Maybe I'll try ONE MORE TIME to exchange it. I'm not sure if Autozone will give me my money back or not. I'm just so tired of messing with this! I've replaced everything else in the system as well (and the power steering unit twice too due to leaking). I'm getting tired of spending so much time on the same friggin problem!!!

Dawn, Do the units that you have replaced have a grease fitting on them? Some do and some don't. If they do then it is possible that you are putting too much grease in them and blowing a seal. Just a thought....Tim

The zerk fitting is not there for adding grease in the field- never ever. :ohnoes

I went through 4 of them and finally said to heck with it and converted to manual rack and pinion. The fourth one leaked before I even drove the car out of my shop. Lasted maybe 5 minutes, just long enough to center, and then started leaking.

Well now I don't feel so bad! I just exchanged the part so I'll put it in tomorrow. If it doesn't work I'm getting a new one. I want to keep this car 100% original so conversion is not an option but sounds VERY appealing right about now. :)

crap shoot on rebuilt valves from what I've seen. Best if you can buy a new one or from a place that "tests" them. I think VB&P tests them so if there is a problem it may be easier to get satisfaction. I rebuilt the original ones off my 72 & 75 and have no leaks but I wouldn't take in one for someone as the part cost went through the roof.

It is a miracle!

I am probably going to jinx it by posting this but I've been driving her for a few days now and NO LEAKS! NO LEAKS!@!!!!!!!!:upthumbs
