Having problems with my remotes staying programed to the car. Pulled the following codes from the DIC in the B0-RFA (Remote Function Actuation) section

U1096 - Loss Of Communication with PCM (No SOH Message Received -RFA
U1064 - Loss Of Communication with BCM (No SOH Message Received -RFA
U1016 - Loss Of Communication with IPC (No SOH Message Received -RFA

Looks like a computer problem? Any ideas? I need to order the shop manuals...

Are you talking about your keyless entry remote? Pull the battery out, take a knife and scrape the battery cavity's positive and negative sides. Reinstall the battery. I had this happen to my g/friend's remote and simply made a better metal contact to the battery. You can also pull the harness plug ends from the computer box and remove/reinstall this a few times. Doing this will dislodge/scrape one of the prongs in the plug and/or pins, caused by possible oxy build-up. This is a simple fix first. Wait for others to chime in with more info.

The only codes I have are in the RFA section and these three only. I borrowed by neighbor's remote and it programed and worked beautifully. I will try cleaning the contacts in the remote. It would suck to have to drop $120 on a new remote. :(

Thanks for the suggestions guys.

With the other remote workng fine, I'd change
the batteries in the remotes first. I have also read
posts of the battery contact becoming dirty.
Hope this helps.

This used to happen to me all the time.

I pull the floor access panel on the passenger side, and pulled both cables out of the computer, cleaned the (already clean) connectors, and put it back together. I haven't had the problem since doing that. I think maybe a connector came loose, probably when I drove thru Louisiana's seam riddled highways shortly after buying my C5.

Purchased a new remote and so far all is good. I purchased the remote from GM Parts Direct for $65, though they hit me for $12 for shipping. :(

Either way everything is fine. I will double check the connectors on the passenger side compartment as well.

HI there,
Due to data link communications within the buss, there may be any or all of the 3 codes listed in the RFA.
This is considered NORMAL, due to state of health messages within the buss.
RFA is a very low class system, and therefore does NOT get the high priority communications line that the PCM or BCM obtains.
I would NOT classify this as the cause of the transmitter issue.
There have been instances of the RFA module NOT being able to follow the rolling code sequence of the transmitters, and thereby, loosing sync.
If this problems continue, you will have to replace the module.

C4C5, thanks, good info. I haven't had any problems all day with the new transmitter. When we bought the car we got two transmitters and one has never worked. The second was dropped and needed some solder repair and was working again. But then it suddenly stopped working. It would link at first, and then loose the association. I'm thinking at with aging these thing may drift off frequency. Perhaps I can take it into work and adjust it back if that is the case.
