Need to remove an ignition switch from a 62'. I have no key for the switch and have the dash out for easier access and removal. I read a post from 67HEAVEN about how to remove ignition switch from his 67 with a paper clip and the key in the switch but unfortunately with no key that option is out. I can cut the switch off and not harm the dash portion but would like to try and get it out whole. Have been to two locksmiths with no luck there. Would like to see if anyone out there has any suggestions before I cut it off. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks

May sound silly but try some old keys in the ignition normally there so worn out an old key will be enough to turn it.Just wiggle them in an out. A good lock smith should be able to pick it to the on posistion no problem then youll use the paper clip in the hole to twist out the lock just tell them it takes the old brigs keys.(I can even pick this)

I agree with Larry. Any locksmith that can't pick an early Corvette 4 wafer lock, is not much of a locksmith! I can pick one of these in my sleep. The tolerances were loose as hell when they were new, and after 45 years of use, they will open with almost anything. Once the lock is picked, and the cylinder removed, he can change the wafers to match any locks you have on the doors.

Regards, John McGraw

Thanks folks appreciate your input, will try the lock picking route first.
