Removing 1989 headlight knob?

Using a thin bladed screwdriver in the slot on the back of the HL knob--release the knob and remove?

I am only a (forgive me) nuclear engineer so do I twist, press against the shaft, or what?

There is a spring steel tab that you push toward the knob. Don't feel bad it's kind of tricky the first time. Good luck Charlie

Solon...Locate a 5 year old...they can get anything open...The spring is a V shape with the bottom of the V sitting in a grove on the shaft. Push back towards the rear of the car and it should come off. You may have to go hunt for it, because it will go flying if you are not careful. To put it back on...just push it on.
