My 86 Vette came with an aftermarket targa top which I beleive is made of plastic (Lexan?). It has lots of water spots and build up that I can't seem to budge. I did a search on the forums and found liots of advice on products to clean glass, but are they also good for plastic?

What makes you think the top is aftermarket?

I thought all the original tops were made of glass?

i was told use a toothpaste and tooth brush. this pulls the waterspots off nicecly as the toothpaste is very midly abrasive.

alot of people suggested this to me but i haven't got around to do it yet.

That there's funny! I rarely laugh aloud, but you did it.

Toothpaste was used on my '63 split to get the scratches off the dash bezels. It is a VERY mild abrasive. I am not sufre I'd use a toothbrush, though, on the car work.

Top issues can be surface scratching OR crazing; the latter of which, no external buffing will remedy.

Works for me.....
