Can the oil pan be dropped with the motor still in the car I have a leaking rear main oil seal it a 2 piece seal.

If so do I need to lift the motor up to do so or not.

I've never heard of changing a seal with the tranny and motor together.

If you CAN get the top half of the seal out, how would you get the new piece back in, to a CLEAN surface?

About getting the pan off I don't know.
Replacing the seal is no real problem we used to replace two piece rear seals quite often without removing transmission or motor. Simply find something softer than the crank or block that fits in seal cavity and drive it out some than get grab it with a vise grip and pull it out.Push a lint free rag through to remove anything that might be laying in there. Drive the new top section of seal in , no problem.
The thing that is questionable about this is, why is the seal leaking? There is usually an underlying reason such as worn main bearings. I would be prepared to replace the main bearings. Actually don't make a lot of cents not to replace all the bearings while your in there if the car has higher miles on it.

I'd like to see this done. Is that purpose of making it 2 pieces?

It a New motor as most of us have found out New dont mean it good.

On the other fourms it said it can be done put #6 on TDC and the pan should come out.

The reason for the two piece seal was the flywheel mount flanges were larger diameter than the seal surface diameter. The two piece seals can have a tendency to seep at the joining surface. The rope seals used to be real interesting , having to trim them to length. If I remember correctly they used to make a wire spacer to push up into the top seal to expand them when you replaced main bearings without removing the engine. In car overhauls used to be common, have done many of them.
I do believe the one piece main seal is superior to the two piece.
