Replacing Speakers

I agree 16 gauge should be good. But with top down crusin that head unit won't give you good sound at the volume you need. I speak from experience. Have fun with the upgrade.

Do you think the speakers could help in that department. What is the best combo for speakers I should look at?

I used Rockford Fosgate 61/2 3 ways in the front and Rockford Fosgates 6x9 3 ways in the rear. I did this without the amp first and drove it for 2 months. Just didn't have the clearity at volume that I wanted so I added the 4 channel Kenwood amp. It is want I was looking for now with the amp. I can e-mail pics of the finished install if you like. Tim, that would be great. Do you think if I went with a different speaker, the clarity would be there. I dont know too much about speakers, so I am just throwing questions out there. I am not a big bass type of guy, but like to pump up AC DC.

No I don't think so. I know there are better speakers out there but the most important thing is to have enough power. All HU's will distorte at some volume. Try just the head unit and if it is not enough volume you can always add an amp. The 6x9's in the back will give you enough bass for what you want to do. Make sure the HU that you by has a low bypass filter. By the way I live just north of you in Grand Rapids. Hope this helps. Tim

Thanks for the help. Grand Rapids isn't too far north. Are you going to go down to BG for the cruise fest this year. Would be great to cruise together. BTW, I will try the speakers and head unit, and like you said, if I need more, just get a small amp.
