I have had my 95 Vette for about 6 months and the change oil light finally came on. I change the oil in the car my self and until now the light has never came on. How do I reset it, and does anyone know what the computer measures to decide how and when to flash the change oil light.

Thanks
Brett

Brett,
!. Ingnition ON but engine not running.
2. Press and release the "ENG/MET" twice within five seconds.
3. Within five secods of #2 hold down "GAUGES" BUTTON (the "CHANGE OIL" lite will flash.
4.Keep hold button down till the "CHANGE OIL" quits flash.

If this fails to work then switch key off and on again and start over.

The computor measures oil heat a various times and RPM and dictates when to flash the "Change OIL". I dont think it measures "age" of oil .... go with the service intervals if the light isnt on.

Are you burning (bad word!!) synthetic oil?

1.Turn the key to the "ON" position, but don't start the engine.
2.Press the ENG MET button on the Trip Monitor and release it.
Then, within 5 seconds, press and release the ENG MET button
again
3.Within 5 seconds, of Step 2, press and hold the Range
(1990-1991) button or the Gauges (1992-1996) button on the
Trip Monitor. The CHANGE OIL light will flash.
4.Hold the RANGE or GAUGES button until the CHANGE OIL light
stops flashing and goes out. When the light goes out, the
ENGINE OIL LIFE is reset. This should take about 10 seconds.
If it doesn't reset, turn the ignition "OFF" and repeat the
procedure.

I'm not really sure how it gauges when it is tlme to change the oil. From what
I've learned from this site, it is a combination of things that determine that.
Good luck:beer

yes I do use Mobil 1 10w30 on a 9,000 mile interval with a filter change every 3,000 miles. This has been my regiment on previous cars and from what I can glean from technical publications, the synthetic oils have a very exended life analysis up to 15,000, however, I choose to change it at 9,000.
