Restoring wheels on 82 Collector Edition....

Does anyone have any tips for restoring the wheels on a 82 Collector Edition?

My brother had the wheels on his all original and unmolested 1980 professionally done. They look brand new. On the other hand, I'm cheap so I did mine myself. I used aircraft paint stripper to removed the clear coat. Feels like a wasp sting when you get this stuff on your skin. Then I used mothers to polish. Some go so far as to reapply clear coat. I never got that far and just touch up with mothers as needed.
