Chevrolet has issued another (revised) recall #04006B for certain 1997 - 2004 Corvettes.
The recall has been revised (again) to include 1997 C5 manuals and export automatics, and 1998 manuals and export automatics built through 5-25-98.
The recall for automatic transmission C5's will involve removal of the column lock plate as before. The steering column will no longer lock.
The recall for manual transmission C5's and export vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission will involve reprograming the PCM and verifying that there is adequate lock plate clearance (if necessary - the lock plate may need to be replaced). The steering column will continue to lock when the key is removed.
Owner mailing of the additional vehicles is scheduled to begin on November 30, 2004.
