Roller Cam???

Without researching the subject, I don't know, or can't see, why it wouldn't work. Of course, you'd have to use roller lifters and different pushrods.

A roller cam will work, but you'll have to get lifters that have guide bars on them. Although they may be available in hydraulic form, I believe most lifters of this nature are for solid lifter applications. You cannot run solid roller lifters on a hydraulic roller cam because the lobe ramps aren't designed for it and you'll stress your valve train.

Don't expect to put factory GM roller lifters in there because your block is not machined for the lifter guides or the guide retainer.

It can be done, but very expensive if done correctly. A lot of internal parts are needed in the lifter gally to keep the roller lifters steady on the cam. The 84 engines are not noted for any HP. A fairly easy way to hop it up is to install A GM 151 hydraulic cam with new springs and lifters. This camshaft is from the 327/350 HP engines during the 60`s. Relatively inexpensive and VERY good, even with a crossfire injection. Every customer that we converted to this cam was completely satisfied. :upthumbs :beer
