Moonunit, hope you're reading this...

I pretty much have the oil leaks taken care of (the flanges on the valve covers are taller on the ends and won't fit inside the heads. Go figure. Have to grind them down). I've been taking the car out for short trips, but I think there's still something wrong. It feels like it's either WAAAAY out of time or running on 7 cyls or something.

Basic problem starts with a rough idle. I expected a less-smooth one because of the cam I'm using (Moon, how's your idle?) but this is enough to shake the whole car. Then, give it gas and until it gets above ~1500 RPM it stays rough. When driving, if the tach is below about 2500, it bucks and shakes when I give it gas - the more gas, the more shaking. Runs ok around 3000 rpm. Has enough power to beat a hopped-up turbo Jetta (with a BOV so loud I thought it was my bearings dying!) but doesn't feel like a Vette should.

I've tried varying the timing from around 4 BTDC (it wants to stall) to around 12 BTDC (bucking is just as bad, stalling isn't as bad). Played with the fuel pressure a bit, too, but to no avail.

Also, until the engine warms a bit, it will stall. The RPMs will hunt between 1200 and 600, and mostly when they get to 600 it'll start running really rough and stall out.

Please, any suggestions? Moon, how does your car run with this same cam?

I'm ready to give up and take it to my mechanic for sorting, but I don't want to spend the $$$ and lose my self-respect :(.

Thanks.

Yeah, but you're still willing to work on yours. I'm at the near-frustration-overload stage. It's soooo close, but I've reached the end of my knowledge. I still think it's timing-related, but unless I did a REALLY bad job of putting the timing chain on then I'm stumped.

I know I get ****ed at mine too, but if I didn't have that Corvette I wouldn't have anything to live for. ;)

If my Vette were my family, I might feel as you do. I have other things tugging at my pocketwatch and purse strings...

Of course, while I was out driving tonight (a trip of about 20 miles) I got waves from not one but TWO Vettes. That helps...
