I thought I might devote a thread to the "little" Callaways...

I had a lot of free time this weekend...Almost finished with the 4-year LM project and moving on Big John's LM, 91-001 Old Lyme rear facia nearing done..

I should not have but I was inspired to start on Speedster#1...I must be nuts!

very nice :upthumbs

you are very brave ! I have several kits in the closet like the 1:24 speedster and a 1:8 85 Vette but I do not have a steady hand.

I had some test models but they all ended up in the salvage yard :crazy

Hi Mike,
I Like the purple.
My LM now has silver stripes.
I can't wait to see photos of the speedster when it's done.

Lookin' awesome! Any plans for how you are going to cut the Speedster's windshield without cracking it? I can tell you from experience that x-acto knives and wire cutters won't do it! :L

I wonder if you'll have a small-scale C8 done before I have my full-scale C8? :crazy If it takes you 4 years I think you might beat me!

I have lost my mind!!!

I took a 100$ AutoArt C6R and cut it up last night to make a Z06R. But, the result is cool. I started Callaway Z06R #4 and it is going to be out of this world. I have the molds for fenders and the patterns for the cages. So now I am going for the gusto...I am going to add the stainless plumbing and engine detail this time. I love the wheels and brakes on this one....it is exactly like the pics Bluewasp loaded...thanx dude.

Brangeta, I will cut the "glass" with a micro saw and polish...the side glass and rear glass will have to be made. This takes a positive stone copy then I pressure-form the clear plastic to shape...easier than it sounds.

Callaway LM trans-kit

Here are the trans-parts that I spent the last few years making. They are rough out of the mold. I have to cut the radiator support off and cut off the fender skirts front and back. I bond them with good'le 3m lite body filler. The doors need a layer of filler to mate with the skirts and rocker panels. The rest is the same as in any bodyshop. The rear facia is a mold that I fill with body filler and slap on the back...viola...

:eek I wonder if your idea of easy includes splitting atoms in half! I don't think working with anything that small is easy. To me, painting Hotwheels is hard enough. :L

LM 94-001 #1 is finally finished...It only took 4 years!

:crazy That LM model looks better than the real car to me!

Are you casting in molds made from the stuff that orthodontists use to made retainer molds?

For the pics above I use 3M Lite Autobody Filler, it is great to work with and strong. I have models that are 10 years old with it and are totally stable without cracks or anything..For the original LM above, the skirts and rear facia is dental-acrylic, but I now cast them with a product out of Dallas called Smooth-Cast. Easy to work with.

What is the mold made out of? The peanut butter stuff. It looks like tootsie rolls :)

That's funny..Called poly-vynilsiloxane aka "Express". It is a 2-part mixed rubber that is very stiff. It holds dimentional stability for years. Very expensive though, around $80 for a pint. Yes it is medical-dental grade thus, same crap-10X more expensive than what you can buy elsewhere.

outstanding work Mike! the details of the car and especially the interior are spot-on. She's on display in my office and everybody comments about the great job in making these parts from scratch. beautiful!!
thanks again,
J

Wow that is awesome! When does a collectors set off all the cars become an option :)

That is what is call talent!

WOW!:D That is some amazing work. I find model building like reading a good book, I'm a little sad when I'm finished. Your work looks second to none, great work indeed!
