Screech sound on heavy acceleration

What shims? Do you mean the actual leafs in the spring??

Between the leaf's or leave's are rubber shims that are the same size as each leaf (length and width not thickness). I think that they arre also called leaf separators. They keep each leaf from rubbing with another leaf. Hench no squeak over big bumps or ass end squatting.

Could it possibly be the clutch slipping?

Perhaps it could be the rear tires rubbing somehwhere? (If your car is really accelerating and kinda squating low, maybe your tires are rubbing.)

...just some longshot guesses...

Actually the bushing on the leaf spring was really shot looking. Like, crinkled up and didn't look so good. But would that cuase my problem?

Is this unsafe?: if I put her up on 4 stands today, can I get in her and start her? And actually get the rear wheels turning? And step on it pretty good? This will tell me if the problem is either suspension or drivetrain, right? But is that safe on 4 jack stands????

No! Do not put it up on jack stands and have the wheels spinning!!! When you jack up the car, it makes the half-shafts move from their proper alignment. (under normal conditions they are near horizontal with the center of the tires) If the tires are spun (especially fast) when its jacked up, then you will wear out your u-joints quickly.

Check your tires and the local wheel well area for rubbing. I don't know what the noise is, but just look real hard for something abnormal.

Stallion:

Just a thought. When you put your driveshaft back in, did you get the parking brake cable back in right place?
I'm grasping at straws at this point.

I didn't even touch the parking brake cable. That wasn't necessary to remove/install the driveshaft. Well, let's say this, I didn't intentionally touch the parking brake cable.

No, as already mentioned this is not only unsafe but also bad for car. Yes from personnal experience. I place mine on 4 stands (on frame) and started car. When I put it in gear and only at an idle let off the brake, holy S*** did it scare me to death. As mentioned the half shafts are not at propper alignment so the bolt locks, on the outer hub, go bang bang bang against something. I didn't let it run long enough to find out.

There is hope though. This is something that I wouldn't recommend doing if you were the least bit unsure of yourself. Also unless you had someone there to call 911 if needed. With that being said, you can place the car on 4 jack stands on frame. Then remove rear tires. Jack up the ends of the leaf spring. I placed the jack under the spring link bolt.(the one with the shot bushings on it) Don't lift the car off of the previously placed rear jack stands but almost. I then placed my 5th jack stand under the lower shock bolts and lowered the jack. Repeat for other side. Using a total of six jack stands. This will give the half shafts better alignment and wont go bang bang bang. Now before you do anything, leaving the tires off, place the lug nuts on backwards and torque down the rotors to the hub. This is to give the extra jackstands clearance from rotating rear wheels.

Hopefully your E-Brake works. If not your kind of screwed doing this with a 4-speed. Your having the problem under heavy accel right? So your going to need to hold the wheels while torquing in first. Doing this without holding the wheels, or major drag on wheels, will be pointless. You'll never get the same condition in the air as on the ground otherwise. Good luck, your in my prayers.
