I'm sorry fellas, but I shouldn't have to look this close to tell a Viper from a Vette. Was GM TRYING to make the Vette look like a Dodge??? I like the car, but it should be more distinguishable!!! When I got this week's AutoWeek, I thought they were running another Z06 feature. Nope:

There's no debating the cars incredible performance, I'm talking appearance. It looks too much like the friggin Viper! Every time I read Dave Hill stating that they were shooting for a more European appeal for the C6, I want to :puke . Who the hell cares what the Euros think of the Vette? By God it's an American icon!!

The vette looks better.:beer

I think the real question is, what does the viper do about a front license plate?

Oh No Mr. Bill!! :eek :grinshot

I really like them both.

I see similiarities and differences...

and have no problem with it. JMO

Who is copying who? I'd say the Viper is looking more Vette-like all the time!

There is a similarity, but so what? The Viper looks cool, and so does the Z06. The Z06 just takes a different approach than the Viper. In my opinion, the Z06 is much better considering its cd value as compared to the Viper. That lower cd and better hp : weight ratio over the Viper enables the Z06 to do what it does best.

Who cares about what the Euros think? GM does. One of GM's major goals for the last couple of years has been to break into the European market. The automotive business is trying to become part of the "global economy." In order to do so, American automotive manufacturers need to build cars that are not only attractive to Americans, but to Europeans as well.

It's an American Icon - yes, but it needs to be an American Icon here, as well as overseas.

I agree 100%.

Straight on from the front will leave you wondering which car it is. All other angles and the two are very distinguishable.

You'd be surprised how similar they are. My wife & I were walking the dog in the neighbourhood and walked past a new Viper coupe parked in a u shaped driveway with hedges. Our first view was the nose so I thought "Hmmm, new Z06? Is that possible?" As we walked past, our view was obscured by the hedges but we saw glimpses. It wasn't until I got past the hedge and looked back that I realized it was a Viper. Like I said earlier... who is copying who?

I had the same experience at a stop light the other day coming from the opposite direction. I thought it was the Z06 until I started to drive past it. The Viper is much more "cut" on the side where the Z06 has smoother lines.

Both are beautiful cars. IMO the Corvette is much more refined.

Dodge V10 vs. Chevy V8 & Chevy's V8 Wins!

Looks can be deceiving, I've driven them both . . . give me the Z06.

As far as the European Appeal - Boys & Girls we are living in a very Global Market, get use to it, it's not going away!

Later . . . . . .

I had a "similar comment" when the 1997 (C5) Corvette was unvailed - thought it looked too much like a Viper and an NSX - still does, but, I love my 2001 Z06 and can't wait to get my hands on my 2006 Z06!

Hardtop!

I agree that the new Z06 is unfortunately similar the the Viper, though I hadn't realized it before. The front end looks like a face--not the greatest look. Another downfall is that Corvette abandoned the hardtop, so the new Z06 is just another coupe/fastback. (The Viper has the hardtop shape that looks more like the C5 Z06, which I like better.) That is the biggest drawback I see as far as trading my 2002 for a 2006...

I'm going to look at a blue viper coupe tommorow...

Dam tempting thats for sure.

With manufacturers stressing good aerodynamics to aid performance and new designs running out, we're bound to see similarities between vehicles. I'm sure they could make the vehicle totally distinguishable but what if it didn't perform well?

Personally, I don't care if the car looks like another car, bottom line is that I like it and it hauls @$$.
