I need to express some frustration to my group therapy. After all the effort and money to acquire and upgrade my Corvette, the wife just doesn't get it. This thing gives me chills just to look at much less driving the hell out of it. The heritage! The performance! The styling! Means nothing. Could have bought a dining room suit. My God woman.

I love her. She loves me. I don't give a damn about Pottery Barn. We soldier on...

You are not alone, my wife calls my Vette "that blue thing" and is always wanting me to sell it. I tell her to sell her diamonds and that ends that, why is it always the man who has to sell his stuff?

Hey, guys...it's a woman thing, at least to the majority!;) You could always be grateful that you are able to have a Corvette...some wives make guys' lives so miserable, they end up getting rid of the Vette:cry On the other hand, there are guys who have wives/girlfriends who not only encourage Corvette activities, but the women also have their own.:_rock Maybe they're the lucky ones??!!

I consider myself lucky that my husband is as much of a Corvette nut as I am...or is it the other way around?;LOL

My Wife likes Classic Cars and has owned several. She particularly likes sporty Jaguars, and the Mark 2. So I encouraged her to get a Jaguar S-Type with a 4 Litre V8, so now she is happy.

Later when I wanted to by a C3 Vette she was happy and enthusiastic. So now I am the proud owner of a 69 Big Block, with Side Pipes. Mind you she has been questioning abit since I have had to have the Starter Motor, Gearbox and Engine out and rebuilt costing lots of money. Still, she is still enthusiastic albeit a little less than before !

She understands the joy of driving a classic Vette, she has lapped up the attention that we get whenever we go out and appreciates the benefits. Whenever she feels that it might have been a mistake I tell her that the beast does not suffer from depreciation and that it is probably worth more now than when I bought it !

My wife loves the 'Vette and we've always been involved with the local Corvette club when we've owned one. Maybe you can get her involved with the local club. Great way to make new friends and get out and do things with the 'Vette. It may take some work to get her involved, but it's better than spending that energy explaining the reasons why no other car will do.

My girlfriend would prefer a soft riding floatmobile. She cannot relate to the performance aspect of driving. :( :cry :(

So very true!! Check out clubs in your area and lean toward the one(s) that encourage couple events, not just car "things"!

If there is one thing i have learned in life, it is Compromise. You can partake in activities your wife enjoys to make an attempt to compromise the situation at hand. So she likes potterybarn, take an afternoon and go to your nearest Potterybarn and spend the afternoon trying to connect with your wife. It might be hard at first but it will open up the door to her spending time with you and the vette. If all else fails, at least you made an attempt at the situation [or buy her diamonds :) ] . I hope this helps out.

When I met my wife back in'76, I had a '62 95% restored black/red corvette rag top.
Really beautiful too! Oh yeah, so was SHE.
SHE would drive occasionally but was put off by the shifting and NO power steering.
SHE knew I wanted a new vette, and I wanted to keep my classic also. This caused
trouble. What to do? (OK, here comes the good part) I went out and bought a new
'78 anniversary, black(of course) w/ red interior, put a BIG RED BOW on it, hid it in the
garage, then took her by the hand into the garage, told her to turn on the light and
yelled HAPPY BIRTHDAY BABY!!! How could she refuse!!!
I had my eye on a boat, SHE made sell the '62 if I wanted that boat, because I was
as SHE put it, "Too invested in fiberglass".
Then came the kids, then my '87 then the tuitions...I'm broke

Well people, I am very proud to say that I bought my hubby his "black beauty" for his 40th birthday. It was a purchase I will never regret ... he's still smiling.:D ;)

Chad, Elaine, words of great wisdom. Positive action vs hostility is advisable. But going to Pottery Barn? I think I have some Valium left over from the operation. That place gives me the heebie jeebies.

The wife loves the motorcycle, vette, boating, and most of all football....I'm such a lucky man and the topic never comes up about selling any of them...even when we probably should have. I've done my time at fabric stores, clothes shopping, etc....she draws the line at computer stores, that she doesn't get it and wants to leave before we get there.

PS Only time something every came up about cost, I remember I commented on the price of that little .0001 ounce of makeup costing about $30.00 :-) A truce was called later that evening.

"Warning: Ownership of this vehicle may require acquaintance with your feminine side"

Right below the airbag sticker.

My last squeeze came up to me when I pulled in with the vette shortly after purchase. We chummed and I eventually had a hard time getting her out of it.
I would say from what I've seen that more likey than don't...

I guess I'm one of the lucky ones. My wife doesn't share the passion QUITE like some other women might, but she enjoys seeing ME having a good time with it. She did the 50th Caravan with me last summer, despite being in a cast with a broken ankle. There's a trooper! And she even found me my Vette... called me at work saying one of her co-workers was selling it.

And we do make compromises a bit; sometimes it's as simple as driving the Vette to go see a "chick flick."

My wife bought me my 85 for my 50th birthday. She never thought much about it but always said I spent too much time in the garage talking to it.... Anyway, recently we moved to a coastal town about 80 miles away. I drove my pickup (she said she couldn't see out the back and didnt want to drive it) and she drove the Vette. Half way to the new house she called me on my cell phone and said she and the Vette had "bonded" lol. Anyway, she now loves the car as much as I do. When it needs fixing she doesn't give me any problems. She even suggested that maybe we need "his and hers" Vettes :)
Guess Ill keep them both around!

Hey, it's not just women who sometimes just don't get it; some guys just don't care about cars, much less the sex symbol such as the red Corvette defines. :v

That would be my brother in law. When my sister and he come to visit, its always my sister who wants to take the vette out for a spin. He has told me he is content driving his Saturn... I just don't get it! :(
