Side Yokes?

I've been driving around on a bad right rear side yoke for about 5 years now. When the car is up on a lift, the right rear tire leans way in at the bottom compared to the left tire. The mechanic brought this to my attention and showed me all the play where the side joke actually enters the diff. I had nearly 1-2 to 3/4 of an inch of movement. The c-clip must have worn off. I only hope the yoke end has not mushroomed inside the diff...makes it very hard to get out. I eventually plan to do this project myself and you can to. Rebuilt side yokes with hardened ends are around $65-$80 each. I found a 7 leaf spring that had never been used from another forum member for $50.00. Check the forum and ebay. If you take the time to hunt down the good deals, the repairs are not as costly.

Fixed!

Got her back today with repairs complete. The only bad thing was that he left a rag on top of an exhaust pipe, so she was smokin' when I got home! Scared me to death! But I found pieces of the rag on the ground, explaining the problem.

She rides stiffer in the rear now, tighter. I can tell the new 9-leaf has made a difference, the rear is a little higher now. I like how it sits. I've heard some say that new rear springs put the rear up very high...but this didn't end up being the case for me; just a tad higher. Feels really good!

I'll be working on the front in the winter. Thanks for everyone's advice as always.

Hey T4bz,

what all did you have done??? and what did it cost.

mine is probally going in next week for new u joints, a taller gear and replacement of all teh seals on the diff.

Re:

I'd actually like to know what it ran you too, T4BZ- My dad's '76 is making that groaning in the rear from a dead stop as well. We just lubed the U-joints, but the noise is still there-
