My driver side window is very slow going up or down. I know nothing about window motors.

Can someone get me started in the right direction.

Thanks Everyone!

My '85 had a slow drivers window also. I think Mid America sells an upgrade to the later model window motors.

Thanks Jay....It's only on one window. The other one seems fine.
So here's my question (HAHA in advance) If I go ahead and upgrade both windows, is the one that is working fine going to be twice as fast as the one that we now be movine at the correct speed?

Thanks again, I'll check them out.

Same issue here BigStubby. My 85 is slow and the 82 just about chops your arm off if it's in the way. I live with it.:w

Before upgrading the window works, try opening up the door panel and using a White Lithium grease on the "chrome poles" I thought I had to upgrade mine as well but after I did the greasing It was back to normal.

Yes... grease the pig

Check all the connection points.. and LUBE AWAY.... clean the OLD goop out first.

A little lube goes a LONG way...

And you WILL HAVE SOOOO much fun removing the door sub panel.... Mu ahahahaa!

but a Vette owner's gotta do what he's gotta do!

yeah, i have the same problem

but with my passageer side, window

goes up much slower then the other, but i have no plans looking at it until i fix the locks in my car,,

they don't work at all,,and one of the reasons is cause the door panel is pushed out way off the door,, i will fix it in the future, after i paint my car

The window on my 85 failed on the driver side. I installed the G.M. upgrade kit that was being done as a bulletin back then. From then on out, my driver window was a rocket, and my passenger would go up and down slow. I use to think it was funny, and when I had dates in the car I would say..."Watch this, they are racing to the top. If the passenger one every beats the driver one...then" (I would make some crazy bet....knowing unless the switch broke or something, that the driver would always win).

69myway....Cool story, I love it.

Thanks everyone....

Clean and Lube is IT

And the sooner you do it, the less likely you'll have to buy one of those repair ribbons that the window motor gear-drives use, to move the window. They are not expensive, but a bit of a pain to replace (ala VigMan's note). The drag from the dirt and lost lube works the motor and mechanism a lot harder, which is why it slowly struggles to move. Typically, the driver side gets more use; hence needs more MX.

Heck, I'd consider replacing the ribbons when the door panel is off anyway. Eckler's is the only place I've found them, too.

Maybe 3-4 hours for the job; perhaps faster once you know the 'art'.

Thanks again...

This sound like a winter project....
