Sometimes turn signals don't work

Hello all,

I hope someone has an explanation or quick fix. My 2000 6-spd has been trouble-free except for this intermittent problem. Sometimes, once every week or two, the turn signals will not activate via the turn signal lever. If I activate the emergency flashers for a few seconds, then turn signals will work fine again. Also, If I then turn off the car and re-start, turn signals will usually work fine. I know this is not that big a deal compared to the many horror stories I read on the forums, but I would like to take care of it. The dealer said he wanted to take apart the dash to get at the flasher mechanisms, but so far, I decided to leave the dash intact. I just don't trust them not to really mess something up so that I have to go back again and again...

Thanks,
_______

Hi there,
Yes, but you have already diagnosed the condition, as a defective hazard switch.
The flashing relays, and everything else, except the turn signal switch itself, is all within the hazard switch.
The upper dash pad must be removed, which will take about an hour.
They will replace the hazard switch, and you will be fine.

Thank you SPECIALIST. I'll go have it done. I just wonder why they had to put the flasher unit way up under the dash...

Best to ya...

Wow I did not know that it all was tied into the hazard switch. That is different. Learn something new everyday.
