Welcome to the Corvette Forums at the Corvette Action Center!

sort of stumble at idle

I was just browsing on ebay and I saw a knock module for a 96 and the ad said that it was in the ECM....

Here's a kicker...in the process of removing the ECM from the mount I noticed that the ECM is really hot. Hot enough that it is difficult to hang on to bare handed, and this is after the car has been shut off for 45 minutes.

Also, I can't find where the Knock Module is...anybody here know where it resides?

Tom, sounds like your PCM is retaining way TOO much heat.

Knock Sensor Module is located in PCM.

You have replaced the defective KS you found. You have checked your resistance in your KSs when hot & have found them within specs.

You only have two (2) choices left in your flowchart. Module or PCM.

Check my PM to you today!

SAVE THE :w

I've been doing some reading as well and found that, Yes in fact the knock modules for 94-96 are interchangable, and that people are putting the less sensitive LT4 knock modules in the 94 and 95 PCMs. Apparently a normal modification for those with modded engines (IE roller rockers, which I have).

I am still somewhat concerned about the amount of heat that is being generated from the PCM. It just doesn't seem right.

I wanted to update you...I have a new LT4 Knock Module on the way...I certainly hope this fixes the problem. I also have the high bid on a reman'd ECM (just in case)

Rivette-ing! :ohnoes I know the baby will wake up eventually and want to be fed and I'll be exhausted having read this thread... but its completely riveting! Its like some cheesy guy soap opera and mystery show all in one. I'd bet there is an audiance for a series like this on a cable show! Just as soon as its solved...nope..to be continued. I can just picture it....the wife comes into the room all sultry in a neglige and guys all over America shoo her out of the way and ask for a beer! :beer

Well not exactly. My child is 8 :rotfl

However, I'm glued to my PC screen, I want this Vette to run. I seem to have a strange interest in knowing some unknown guy in the US can fix the strangest problems with his vette via the web.

I honestly want the mans car to run well. :thumb

In an off hand way its me, with the same issue... I want to know the average guy can make it. I want to know , no matter what, I can fix whats wrong.

I get by with a little help from my friends ... ;)

FIX IT MAN .. your killin me!

I want to hear rubber burning and gas gurgling.

Make it right! So far 1,870 people want to know !

No pressure though :ohnoes:ohnoes:ohnoes:ohnoes

Once this thing is fixed I hope it's doesn't continue. ;LOL

Believe me, nobody wants this thing fixed more than me. ;) Thanks for the support guys, you will know shortly after I get this figured out! I'd hate to leave you guys "cliff-hanging". :chuckle Oh and I won the Reman'd ECM.

I just came from my mechanic and dropped off the 95 ECM I bought on ebay....maybe it will fix all my problems! I'm praying!! Hey Tom, have you heard from Paul?

Not for a while.

ttt

Just bumping this to the top! The suspense is killing me! I can hardly wait to find out the outcome! (Redundant?) :)

SAVE THE :w

I haven't received the knock module yet...... Hopefully today.

Got the Knock module...now to find some time to pull the ECM and swap the old one out for the new.

The ECM is an easy swap. Be VERY careful of all the pins though. Try and pull the plugs straight out, not at an angle.

The thing has like 10 zillion pins on the back of it. :W

Also, be sure to disconnect the battery. :)

Yeah I know, simple stuff, but I really hosed up an ECM on a Z-28 one time because I got in a hurry.

Received the ECM today, now I'll see what I can do with the new parts.

Dang Tom, haven't had much time lately to check in here...I had no idea you were having such problems!

I know it's a little late in the game...but if that PCM doesn't fix things...check your plug wires! (even if it does...heck do that anyway!) Something as simple as an arcing wire will do EXACTLY what you're describing (just guess how I know :chuckle ).

Greg...going back to your vacuum reading concerns...you have to consider the fact that he's at a higher elevation (4000-something ft I think?). That WILL effect the vacuum reading. His 14"hg sounds just about right (hell my '02 Grand Am AND '00 Blazer only read about 13" at idle...you don't wanna know how much the Xfire is pulling right now :L ).

Now I'm gonna be sitting here waiting for the "Reply to thread....." email too! :W :ohnoes

Hey Tom....just wanted to tell you I got mine fixed this week....the number 2 and 8 spark plug wires were switched.....the guy that replaced my head gasket missed the simplest thing....now mine's running like a big dog....I'm gonna wait a while to get the CCM fixed.....

Gentlemen, I just wanted to check in and tell you that I have had some real challenges here lately and haven't had a chance to even think about dropping the Vette down to work on it.

The first was finishing up my granddaughters' loft bed (which had to be delivered this weekend....done) and the other thing is also related to the first... while working on the loft bed I shot myself with a 1/4" x 5/8" long staple into my left hand, which required a night in the hospital and a one hour surgery to remove the staple and cleaning of the wound. So I am a bit "slow". As a matter of fact I am probably not going to be able to work on the car for a few more days. :ugh

Sorry to hear that Tom! That sounds like something I would do! You just work on getting better....

I have found a very good Corvette shop though....Don Freley auto clinic in Overland Park, KS. It's probably as close to you as any....there were 4 Corvettes in the lot the day I went there...including a beautiful red '67 with side pipes....I asked Mike if that was the shop's loaner.....!!

Kcrick, I was in KC when I posted that earlier today. Now I made it home, 6 1/2 hours of hard driving, but glad to be home. Thanks for the concern, I'll get back on the fix as soon as I am able.
