I've been getting some poping or crackling sound during acceleration between about 2500 and 3500 rpm. It seems to be coming from the intake manifold when I rev it up to these rpm's while in park. It was recomended to retard the timing and see if it disapears. I retarded it from 6 BTC down to 4 BTC and it seemed to reduce it somewhat, so I took the timing down to 0 BTC and it is barely noticeable now. It didn't seem to change the way it is running. It still has good power and acceleration. I took it on about a 250 mile trip this weekend and the gas mileage also went up from about 22 MPG to 25 MPG from the last time I made the trip. This time I had the timing at 0 BTC as oppsed the last trip when it was at 6 BTC. Could this be caused by a slipped timing chain or the distributer being off by a tooth, or is it something more serious?
I also noticed that at highway speeds 75 MPH and about 1900 rpm that the oil pressure is around 80 psi and the temp 240 F although the coolant temp stays right around 210 F. Is this normal?
Thanks for any help.
