Hey, anyone know whether Plasti Kote and the like for interior vinyls will work for changing color? Got saddle, thinking about black w/red trim. Since my door panels, for example, are in good shape, I didn't wanna have to pop for new black panels if I can just spray the ones I have. Opinions? Thanks!

There used to be a product called MarHyde for this purpose. Your skill as a sprayer is key.

Why not look for used door panels online or at any of the vendors that deal in Vette parts?

I used SEMS Vinyl dye on some trim parts, but not on the door panel. I changed from blue to black and have been very happy with it. SEMS recommends a three part system where you spray a cleaner to remove any grease or dirt, a dye prep and then the dye itself.

I did this on a recommendation from someone who had did their middle console over three years earlier and they said there was no sign of wear.

Good luck.

ditto on the SEMS products. haven't used any lately, but did use them when i restored a 69 coupe. got excellent results. the key is to get the surfaces squeeky clean.

I used a product called Leatherique. I would NOT recommend it! The product says it is a Dye, it is not it is a Paint. I changed a like new set of Sport Seats from Blue to Grey. I had the seats out of the car, prepared exactely with the company products ( including sanding as described in instructions). Within a short period the Blue showed thru at flex points, then at wear points.

No response from the Company! Very expensive, I now have beautiful condition multicolor seats. I guess I'm going to recover.
Again these products do not DYE, they Paint.

I successfully changed my door panels and console sides from red to black with paint made especially for interior changes. I got it at Ecklers or Mad, don't remember which one. I did this a couple of years ago and I'm happy to report that the paint is holding up quite well, it still looks new and it is not wearing off as I expected it would. I would recommend this paint for anyone who wants to change interior colors on a budget instead of taking out a second mortgage to buy new door panels in a color of their choosing.

A caveat I just thought of: follow the directions carefully and make sure the surfaces are absolutely clean prior to painting. I bought the vinyl prep spray and took my door panels into the shower with me and washed washed washed. Then I dried them thoroughly and then painted, I think they only needed two coats each. They were beautiful when I was done.
