During my maintenance checks, in preparation for the trip to Bowling Green, I rotated the tires. Behind those big fellas, I found this.

You should be ashamed.

Today I took out the battery that went dead 20 years ago in the '59. What do you think I found? :eyerole

I give up, Tom. What did you find? :confused

he found DIRT!!!!!!!

Dirt, mouse droppings, shredded mouse poison box (they must have used it for a nest) and a battery case split wide open from freezing. The battery tray was remarkably solid and clean considering all of the battery acid flowed across it. After closer inspection I remembered that I greased the tray top and bottom and the mounts and frame area under it when I installed the battery in 1975. Without a doubt that saved a lot of problems.

You're the one who should be ashamed. First for leaving the '59 sit for 20 years and second for not removing the battery when it went dead.

Yes I catch a lot of grief over that car. I put that battery in dry and filled it after it was in the tray. Made sense since you have to stand it on end to get it down in there. That is also the main reason I didn't take it out. I didn't want the acid running all over. I guess it solved that problem for me.
