Just wanted to let all know that the noise that I herd was in fact a spun bearing. I was on the edge of selling it or spending the big $$$$ to fix it. I opted to get it fixed. The engine is already pulled and the heads are being sent out. I was just curious to get advice on anything else I should have done since the engine is being rebuilt?? Oh yeah........I have the STOCK 89, I was thinking of changing the rear end gears, any advice on that would be GREAT !!!

What work are you having done to the Heads?

How many $ do you want to throw at it?

If you are going to put the TPI back on clean it up and port and polish every thing.

Cams are cheap but with the stock TPI you need to stay mild, the damn thing just can’t pass enough air to take advantage of any major mods.

Roller rockers will make a noticeable difference, the reduced friction works at all RPMs.

Now is the time to blueprint and balance.

When we changed to 3:07s it was like a different car. The gear change let the other engine mods do their thing. From this forum it looks like a lot of folks go to a much higher ratio but to me more than 3:07 is overkill unless you spend lots of time at the track. My topend actually increased with the new rearend and there is no noticeable change in MPG.

Good luck.
