Hi Everyone,

Noticed something recently with my 81 vette. Car starts fine when the car is cold, drive it around for a while. Car heats up. Shut off the car , wait awhile and try to restart and it seems like I have no power, nothing lights up on the dashboard and it doesn't start. I try a few times and eventually starts. Any ideas why this is happening?

Make sure battery cables are clean and tight.

Hi,

What was happening to the car is what they call heat soak. My starter would heat up and the connectors would absborb the heat making it more resistent to the electrical flow. Bought a heatsheild for my starter and the problem was gone

I've had that problem too but not with the '81. One time the shop turned the armature to give more clearance and that helped a lot. I bought 2 different heat shields for the '69 C10 I'm building but I don't have room for either one. I may get one of the starter wraps or wrap the exhaust pipe.
