Help! Starts..Runs..Won't Re-Start

:W:W:W My '89 Coupe has left me stranded twice now :W:W:W


She'll start and run fine initially but after a few stops...she'll not re-start.
The engine spins but will not fire. After a period of time (doesn't matter how long...although a few hours helps) it will fire.

I replaced the fuel pump, it needed it, but that didn't help. It's throwing no codes, has fire and proper fuel pressure.

Any ideas?

How old are the spark plugs? That would be my first place to look for trouble.

I'm not sure if your 89 has one, but I had the same issues on another vehicle and it turned out to be a bad ignition module........

Check for injector pulse when hot no fire condition.

Older Ign components can go flaky with heat soak
As well as supplying spark ;the ign module in dist sends a reference pulse to the ECM to fire the injectors

I'm hittin' on about 1 cylinders lately on diags here on the boards, and I say leaking injectors.

How long did it hold 'proper' fuel pressure?

Do you have a fuel pressure gauge? I would try and confirm that the injectors are not leaking down during hot soak.

Well known problem with the '89 injectors.

In that case you need to confirm that you have injector pulse when cranking hot
