greetings, are the splines on the steering coupler(rag-joint) dedicated and can only be installed in one orientation? or can you just put it together anyway that fits?

Robin

Hi Robin,

If you take the old joints off, make sure your steering is straight and the steering wheel is level. When you put new ones on, they should slide on with out changing the orientation of the steering. If you are concerned about moving the suspension from its original position, you can mark the old one with respect to the the steering box spline and the the steering wheel shaft and then mark the new one to match.
It doesn't really answer the question, but I would put things back together the same way they came apart, in general.

There is a flat on one side of the column shaft. The tightening bolt in the rag joint will have to be removed to slide the joint onto the column, ensuring that the bolt, when installed will lay across the flat, the install and tighten the bolt.

Hope this helps

Cheers

Richard

yes, both answers help. i believe the coupling was installed(previously) with the steering slightly askew. the tie rod lengths are not equal. yet,the steering wheel is almost centered, but the wheels are toe'd out. so first i want to align the box and steering wheel, then move to the toe in/out.

thank you very much

Robin
