The steering shaft in my 95 is starting to get a little play in the knuckle. Anyone know a good place to find a replacement at a good price? The dealer wants almost $500 just for the shaft, let alone installation.

Thanks,

Leon

Yup. They're pricey, even used.

It is the collapsable design, for crashes. I bought one, then took it back. Drilled a hole and put a bolt thru, as the 'new' had play, too. Now, no play.

Is it the u-joints that go out on these? Can they be replaced? Where did you put your bolt to stop the play?

Not on mine. I tried to e-mail you a photo, but UR not setup for it. I'll try to figure out how to post it on here. Good thing I checked back here.

The bolt goes through the part I saw with play in it: the crash slider. As I recall, it is a rather 'D' shaped shaft inside a like shaped sleeve. Mine is just aft of the thin sleeve covering the knuckle, about even with #1 spark plug.

Just know that your collapseable steering column, WON"T if you drill and bolt it thusly.

Not sure about the shaft not being able to collapse, but I have enabled by email address in my profile. You can probably send the photo. I'll have to look at it a little closer.

Thanks again,

Leon
