Hi everyone, was wondering if anyone has installed the steeroids package on their car. They advertise that its a bolt on and no mods neccessary. My stock system is a little leaky and was deciding whether I should just get remanufactured parts and replace the stock system or try the steeroids system. I don't rally drive the car so I don't need a high performance steering and the cost for the remanufactured parts is about half the steeroids setup. Any thoughts on this? Thanks Dwayne

I'd fix the original system. Like you said, it's half the cost. Use the difference for something else.

Not picking on the rack and pinion steering system, lots of guys say they're a wonderful thing.

Well, I changed everything on the steering subject, even rebuild the compleet steering column. Of course its much better then a old worn system but it doesn't come close to a new steering system. When I have the money and time I'm going for a Borgson system :)

You can find lots of topics on the Steeroids - Borgson subject. Also pro's and con's on the two so you have to make your own choise. :)

Greetings Peter

I custom build the stock boxes and the guys who have some of the aftermarket setups switched over. Now with that said I'm sure there are a lot who love each of the aftermarket systems they chose but a correctly built stock box, with fit parts, good suspension, & alignment is all many need with cash left over.

Good luck with your choice.:w

Thanks for all the replies. I too think the new stock components will be more than adaquete for my driving needs. As old as my systemis the only leak at the moment is one fitting that comes off the pump, pretty decent.
Regards, Dwayne

GTR1999 probably has all the info to check/test your steering box to see if it needs help. Past that, fixing the leak and maybe replacing the lines might be the way to go. I've got a new set of lines for my 69, and the next time I pull the engine, I'm going to take a really close look at the box- like out on the bench all apart close look. Only has 34,000 miles, but it's 42 years old too. I know the grease is done and I'm hoping the gears are OK. With any luck it'll be a "wash and wax".

Hi Tim,yesterday I crawled under and got a good look at everything. The leak is coming from the line that goes from the pump to the control valve and it's leaking at the fitting at the pump. probably wore out,at any rate last night I ordered a kit that replaces all the lines and figured I'd throw in a new pump as well. This winter I might do the front end kit, tighten everything back up. Don't need any steering components letting go while going down the highway.

Read Jim Shea's Corvette Steering papers at Jim Shea’s Steering Papers

This guy is a retired GM engineer and I think he wrote most of, if not all of, the book.
I think the Vette steering uses a different pressure regulator than the standard GM pump. The regulator is the fitting the hose goes into on the back of the pump, you might want to investigae that a little more and confirm that you get the correct pump or at least keep your fitting.
