My steering wheel and shift knob are in good shape but has small scratches in them, has anyone used shoe polish on their car? Is there a product out there especially for this?;shrug

Shoe polish!!?? Most shoe polish is going to come right off onto your hands. :confused

There's no quick fix that I'm aware of. If it's badly deteriorated or sun-bleached, the only option is to replace it.

shoe polish seems like it could work if you rub it in real well. If it gets wet it may come off. Not sure if I want to try or not.

Try lether dye or edge dressing if you can not afford to buy a new wheel. Again like ken mentioned it may come off later on.

...A sharpie? Maybe:eyerole

You might want to try Mothers Back to Black. I think my brother put it on his steering wheel one time, but I can't remember if he said it helped or not.

The leather looks practically new except for fine scratches that must have come from the previous owner's rings. :confused

I figured that with a little black shoe polish and some wax it might be a good touch up. I’m thankful for all of your suggestions, I'm off to check them out.:D

I have been using a product from KIWI called mink oil.its neutral in color and u rub it on and use a hair dryer to warm up the leather and u can see the stuff suck in to the leather leaving it soft and supple. It took out most of the marks on my seats. just my 2 cents

Thanks bigtime, I actually have some of that stuff in my shoe shining kit, I use it to water proof my boots.

The leather shift knob and horn button looked pretty scruffy on mine.

I went to a shoemaker and got a spray can (can't spell aerosol) of black leather dye.

It did a super looking job and hasn't worn off yet!!

Ron ... :w

I used leather dye (from any drug store or cobbler) and was very careful not to allow any drips onto the seats or where I didn't want it.

Put it on and wiped off the excess. Re-applied and removed excess.

Did that about 4 times and let it sit over night. Then used a terrycloth towell and rubbed it well.

It looks like a new wheel and it hasn't come off on my hands.

I think so. Shoe polish has very little color in it anyway.

A good leather dye will last a long time, even on your fingers, but it only a coverup for cracking. Others mentioned the leather conditioning.
