Here's the question...rewrap for 190.00 + my shipping cost, plus down time?
Or Repro. for 135.00. any thoughts???

Yeah, where do you get a repro for $135? That's what I'll be getting then.

That all depends if you want to keep yours original.
I say grab the repo & box the old one.
Its cheaper and you still have the original

:Silly :Silly :Silly

Hammer...

Order the repo, and buy something else with the $65.00 difference.

I ordered a repo two years ago from Mid-America.
Brushed 3-spoke, Black Leather with C-O-R-V-E-T-T-E embossed on the top of the wheel.:cool

I can understand your wanting to stay original, so keep the old one (mine's now a clock in the garage) so in time, you can always switch out later.

Don't shoot yourself, or feel to sad with a repo, our 81's are nice Vettes, but not the big-money collectors items we wish they were.
I often thought the "gotta keep original" was the only way to go. The longer I've owned my Vette, the more I came to the realization of, why am I restricting myself so much, when there's so much out there I want to do.

Once I made the leep over to the "other side", the real fun began.

If you have a numbers matching L88... sure.
But why keep things original?
Thats one thing I never understood.

There have been over 20 years since the sharks stopped production.
Just think of all the upgrades to be made everywhere:
* electric light conversion
* braking system
* wheel & tire options
* seats
* safety
* stereo
* not to mention the powertrain... SHEESH!!!

My goal is to make my 79 as "JASON friendly" as possible.

Anyone have any ideas on a cup holder placement?

:upthumbs

Thanks for the replys...I belive I'm going with the Repro. Wheel...after all If I send my OE wheel in I won't be getting (my) wheel back. Guess my MAIN concern was what the quality of the knoch-off wheel would be like. Guess I'll take the chance.
Corvette Parts Depo, AKA (THD) has the wheels for $135.00. Thats where I got my seat covers from but actually came from Corvette America.

Thank you - Thank you!!!

Now just to clear up some confusion in head.
Did you order something from this place and another vendor sent it to you?

Another Vendor>>>

Thats Correct. I bought new Seat Covers and hog rings with the tools needed to do my job. Ordered it through (THD) in Ga....Everything came from (Corvette America) here in Pa. As it turns out Corvette America is a supplyer to places like Mid America, Ecklers ,(THD) and several other distributors.
Just so happens, Corvette Parts Depot aka (THD) is a wholesaler to the public...I saved over $100.00 on the cost for my OE Seat Covers VS anywhere else.

The Last Detail has a catalogue in place. You order from it and the part sometimes comes from a vendor. For example, I recently ordered the stainless steel braided brake lines from them and I think they either came from Corvette America or Mid America.

I have found that even with this arrangement their prices are usually less than the price quoted by the supplying vendor.

AH!!!

The beauty of drop-shipping companies.
What is the average turn around on parts (days) from order to delivery?

Time>

I guess that would depend on what part of the Country you live in...I had my seat covers in 2 days. Ordered late Monday...arrived Wensday!

Thats a remarkable turn-around time for a drop shipper.
Thats what I do, and I am still looking at 3-7 days.
If Im lucky.

Hammer.... send (rare81) Bud a private message. He had his done by a buddy of ours from the L81 Registry in Missouri that rewrapped his steering wheel and it looks factory. I've seen the job personally and it looks great. I don't think he paid $135 either (less).

Hope this helps............. Nut

Thanks Nut

Thanks Nut, I'll do that. However that would be I'm guessing some serious down time correct?

I don't think it was that long. Bud would know.

As I remember...

Steve sent Bud a wheel to use and B switched the wheels out sending his original to Steve. When the job was complete Steve mailed Bud's original back to him and the wheels were switched again, with Steve's being sent back to him.

Wheel Swap>

Thanks for the info...thats a good idea about having a temp wheel...To bad fo me I don't have that option.
It's looking like the Repro for me is the way to go and will be fine.

Before I receive a whole bunch more emails.... Whoa...

Steve from SSautoSports was where I sent my steering wheel off to be re-wrapped. Without looking up the $$$ amount, I seem to recall it was around $165 or so for the re-wrap, plus shipping. It ended up being $25 or $30 less than some of the Major aftermarket vendors..

Steve offered to send a spare steering wheel during the re-wrap, I opted not too.. I figured too much mailing and I could live without driving Rare for a month or so in December or January ;)

As I recall it took about 3 to 4 weeks from the time I mailed it until I had it back and on Rare.

I am very pleased with the re-wrap.. it looks like factory new..... Silver Leather..

I believe there is still a listing for SSautoSports in our Vendors Forum.

I haven't seen Steve in or around the CAC in almost a year now :confused I tried to contact him on my way back from SharkFest last year.. but failed to hook up with him :confused His shop is north of Columbia Missouri, I think at Hallsville (?)

Hope this helps.. Thank everyone that emailed and asked, I don't know anymore than this folks... sorry

Bud
