Barry,

sorry to hear of your continuing problems! LADY is back to Tony on Thursday to get ready for Windsor!

hi Rick

I'm sorry to hear of my continuing problems also!
LOL

I know tony will have LADY in as good as a shape for Windsor as she can be in.

I wish Tony was closer so I could at least have him do the work on BABY as problems come up but he is just a bit too far.

The following came from a post I made on another forum, but I believe it applies here as well regarding the widely varying "frame-off restorations" I've seen over the years . . .

"The small-block cars handle great when properly restored, set up, and equipped with late model radial tires. I would venture to say they would outperform 80-85% of the modern cars on the road when they're in proper condition.

That said, they're also 35-40 years old on the average, and very few I've seen have been properly restored, set up, and equipped. That's why you see so many people having so many problems on this and similar forums."

Frame-off has a broad range of interpretation, and depends upon who's doing the interpreting, it seems!

ain't that the truth!!

Yeah...fully agree to that.

However...I did my frame off resto by myself wanting to drive the car. I don't like car' were you need to think about what distances they can cope with as you turn the key...

All the things I have replaced and rework now work absolutely fine....however it's not an NCRS like resto since as a 64 it wears sidepipes and 65style knockoff repros. However....that's they way I like the look. Anyway....having said that everything that I worked on the only things that tunred out tobe crap was one visit to a maintenance shop (for alignment) which almost did cost me the rearend (because of them using wrong bolts at the outer half shaft) and stuf around the engine that I did not touch (havind had the engine out of the car I replaced the oil pump...some gasket incl. main bearing...fuel pump...and flywheel..new clutch...). Since compression testing was ok beforehand I decided not to take the (running) engine apart to the last screw but keep it as it was. These days something tunrs out to be wrong in there.

So..never mind....even if I did this work for myself and everything I finished works out fine....there is still stuff that I haven't touched and this seemingly tends to break. Like one said...this car is 40 years old (I'm getting there as well....hopefully this doen't happen to myself as well...).

And to keep you getting into that spirit deeper and deeper....this is my first Vette as well (not my first old car..). Mainly started like you....but moneywise decided not to give a frame off resto to a shop....and therefore had to learn a lot of things by myself. If you have learned a lot of things....you'll be getting better and better in determining what noise is ok...and what'll give you a hard time.

Still I have to admit that not every repair is truely fun....due to lack of time (sometimes money as well...). No one keeps me from learning more and more....

...and after two or three years going through a lot of stuff you'll have some routine...

The only advice that I would give to you is: Be patient...and GO FOR IT !

Michael
