stuck on the rear again, and need help.

How do you remove the "L" looking part where the shock and strut bar ends connect to the T/A....... see pic for reference.

I already loosened all the nuts to the shock and strut bar, and unhooked the shock from the lower support bolt. but now I can't seem to budge the "L" part it was connected to, to take off my strut bars.....which are also detached from the differential already.

first spray wd40 oil all over it .
This is what works well for me take a good strong center punch put in middle of shock mount/bolt on threaded end that nut came off of using a heavy hammer knock it out being carefull not to damage threads ............
they sell a fat long nut to screw on and knock off if you want to go that way but eather way a hammer will be involved .

There are small threads that run lenght wise on the shock mount that make it fit tight and also keep it from turning so you will not be able to twist it out ..........

A few hard blows and it should come flying out ,now I diden,t notice but you need to losten the camber bolt on the differentical first to relieve pressure mark this location so u can reset it there unless your going streight for a alligment..............

Hitting the shock mount with a punch and a hammer will work but if you miss and you mash the threads your done and you'll have to get a new or used shock mount. I'd buy the shock mount knocker. I have one and it is priceless, a bit safer too. Just thread on the knocker and back off a couple threads and bango the mount will come forward. Back off a few more threads and knock it thru.

Now I haven't bought a shock mount but there not cheap about $35-50 each..............

Go to the parts store and get some PB Blaster it is some of the best rust penetrating lube. Put your nut back on about two threads after spraying and then hit in the center with a punch and hammer, after it moves take the nut off that way you will not mess up your threads.

It is the sleeve inside of the strut bushing that seizes on the bolt.

Yo can go to the hardware store and get two nuts to make your own shock mount tool. Don't hammer on the castle nut. It will flatten too easily and is hard to find.

Hey Guys, thanks for the input, I just happen to have PB Blaster but I haven't use it on there yet. will do that 1st.

also, I just didn't know if I was to bang it thru straight back, or if it was supposed to unscrew off????

ill try the nut on then and banging it off first, I have some nuts that will fit that to make my own mount knocker, that's a good idea.

I was using a rubber mallet, is that ok, or do I need a hammer.

I ended up using a small sledge. I don't think the rubber will do it.

I soaked mine in PB Blaster for days,then using the proper tool which threads on, beat that thing to death with a 3lb mini sledge. Using heat would be the best way. Yours looks worse than mine did. I would use the heat process on that one,get it good and hot and than beat it out with your 3 pounder. Forget trying to use a regular hammer. By the looks of your picture,you might as well remove the whole assy from the car and work on it on your work bench.

p.s. You are definitely going to need install new ones. Use a little anti-seeze compound when you put the new ones in. I got my shock brackets from Vette Brakes.

Dave,

If you have air tools, put a pickle fork (also known as a ball joint seperator) and put it between the forward part and the spindle and hammer away. The hammer won't damage the threads, but from the looks of it, you will want new ones anyway.

Like all the other advice, soak it in WD40, Knocker Loose, or PB Blaster for a couple of days first.

I suppose you are putting new struts on. If it becomes a big problem you can take a cut off wheel and make two cuts on the strut pull it off then cut the rubber and then make a shallow cut on the sleeve then with a chisel knock it off. The other thing you can try is to use another nut like you said but screw a bolt into it against the shock mount. You will have to use a hammer with some B&^%* to it and swing away.

You can wire wheel it, paint it and save some money if you save it. BTW good advice about the air tool.

went looking for that stud mount remover, and no one could help me with that. not at sears, pep boys, auto zone, napa......no one, so I just got a little torch and now im going that route.....
I let you know how it turns out.

I planned on installing everything new down there, but I wasn’t sure if that part came with the performance plus suspension kit or if it was separate, so I didn’t want to risk it and mess it up by pounding the hell out of it....
how was yours??????

good tip on making my own mount knocker, since I could not find the shock knocker tool, this was my next best alternative for pounding it :bash. but guess what??? no one had a nut that big in stock.... what luck.... well home depot did, but it was the wrong thread.... go figure.

now its time for fire....

thanks Steve, well, I have air tools....you need them at some point for this kind of work, and they have come in handy, but I do not have an air chisel.... only air tool I do not have, I never really thought it would get that much use, so I passed on it....
I should go get one... I do have pickle forks, but I wasn’t sure if the would work in this situation, maybe I should reconsider that idea... thanks again.

I am putting new struts on it too, as well as probably the rest of it too...
im trying, not to cut, if I don’t have to, cause I could possibly sell them to some one who wants original parts for their car, and also offset some of the money I will and have spent on it already...
the bolt and nut thing is a good start for the banging process, thanks again.....I didn’t think of doing it that way.
although I just came home from the auto parts store, and bought a propane torch like BURGLAR suggested cause I couldn’t find any of the other stuff, so ill just use what I can get.....and I know ill need it again for another stuck nut or bolt too.....

no one here really knew what that was......
by the way, is that the real name of it, or dose it have an actual name.
i assume they come in different sizes, or is it some sort of kit, or do you have to buy each size seperately......
just like to know for future reference...
