Tonight, I caught a glimpse of the (automotive) future - BIG time power in the form of the new C6 Z06 in a pretty silver wrapper!

More to follow however, the inital power just from the first modification - a Callaway Honker Airbox, netted a solid gain of 12hp and 11 lb-ft of torque :cool

While more development is in the works, it is interesting to see where the car is at after just one week :eek

...stay tuned! :v

Very cool! Can't wait to see what Callaway does to this puppy!!

Holy crap their going to have to sell Depends with that. :W
Can’t wait to see what they do to it also.

I'm just curious, as I've always wondered about these type of things...

If simply changing ("improving") the air intake makes these notable changes for the better, how come the factory doesn't do this? Is it that they simply didn't put the R&D into this part of the car, or that they simply ran out of R&D time to make any further adjustments to this particular piece? It would seem that they go over every piece of the car with a fine tooth comb of computer algorithms and flow modeling, that this would be manufactured to the best possible configuration.
:confused

...there are probably quite a few angles and answers for this but I will speak to the one about the airbox in particular.
GM's standard is reportedly being able to drive into/through, or?? nine (9) inches of water and not ingest through the bellows.

That is crazy to even drive through 3 or 4 inches of water, let alone 9 inches so there you immediately have more flexability with that "standard" relaxed :cool

GM also refines designs over time and they may come out w/ bigger or better models over time - evolution of the Corvette :cool

...Now, wait 'till you see the power graphs of what is coming next on the Callaway Z06 :eek

Any better than what LG did two weeks ago with their headers?

I don't know what LG did w/ their headers :confused

I do know that their products are not emissions compliant - may be a big deal in your area, may not :ugh (moving the cats from factory locations = illegal - by the book)

...in the meantime, here are two more graphs from the development and engineering of the Honker Airbox for the C6 Z06

First graph shows airflow comparo between the stock C6 Z06 box and the Honker - Honker flows a bit over 40% MORE :eek than stock!

Second chart shows vacuum @ WOT during road testing - this is dirrerent than a dyno test, as it shows the force of air and its effects going in - any closer to zero, and the Honker equipped C6 Z06 would be making boost :eek close...
