Anyone come across a source for a long shafted T-40 torx bit?
Sears and my local hardware stores didnt have anything that size.
Picked up one off of ebay, but the shaft is too shallow to reach into the front roof screws.

Thanks in advance,
Rain

Hang around a shop until the Snap-On, or a Matco, or a Mac tool truck makes its rounds; they'll have one. ;)

For the roof panel you can just use a T-40 torx screwdriver instead of the little ratchet that comes with with the car.
The panel needs to be on tight. But it doesn't need to be cranked down with a ratchet. I've used the screwdriver many times. Get the car on level ground. Tighten it up. Drive it a bit. Then come back and recheck. Never had a problem with mine and I have both roof panels.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I assumed that the need for a long-shaft torx bit was to use with a power driver, right Rain? Or is that - "Right (as) Rain?" :L

Ken gets the GOLD STAR today kiddies!

yes sirs and mams.
For a ebay find - cordless screwdriver, with a light on the front to see at night when putting on the top quickly.
4.99 $ and i was the only bidder . yea me!

But alas, the T-40 I also won, has a short shank and while works great on the back screws, does me little good up front.
:(

Thanks for the links yall!

One of the majot tool companies such as Mac or Snap On have them, but I can tell you though that Sears Craftsman doesn't - I looked and looked, and asked, but they didn't have a long one. :(

Yes, I hear ya Ken
No luck at sears or my local hardware shops. Not even Lowes or HOme Depot. Nothing that size.
Gona check those links up above here in a sec and see what I can find.

Whew, its a hot one today!

You are actually bringing up the subject of inches here? No, I ain't gonna touch it. :L

Oops! I did another one! ;LOL

Psst, the 3.5 should work just fine, but does the same adage hold true for length as it does for cubes, that is - "The bigger the better!" :L

Yea, had thought about buying a standard tool and cuttin it off for the screwdriver.
alas, tool shaft is round. Screw bits must have flat edges.
More work than its worth to weld it to another bit or grind sides on it.

Good suggestion tho!

I went to Lowes and found a Bosch pack of two torx bits that fit into my ratchet/screwdriver. The pack cost only $2 and the larger bit fit the screws you loosen to take the top off and the smaller bit fit the smaller screws to the sides of the rear screws (which needed to be tightened).

Worked great for me!

Good Score! I went to lowes, with my factory Torx wrench. Kid looked at me like I was from Mars! haha

Can't blame him.. I sometimes do look that way! haha

Ended up with a long shaft version of the T-40 bit from Snap On. its solid - fits the drill fine.
Does the job fast!

Thanks for posting
