My vette (96LT1-auto) normally runs about 200 degree's, but this weekend while my wife ran into a deli to pick up some grub, (about 15minutes) l noticed that the temp went up to approx 235 deg. The outside temp was approx 60 deg. But when l drove it, it came right down as l would expect. I just had the radiator cleaned and flushed and put in new anti freeze (dealer).

The question is what happens when l get caught in traffic going to the beach with the outside temp reaching 95 deg.?????????

Thanks
Alan

Sitting still for a while, mine will run up to ~230 and then the fans will kick on and take it back down to ~217 or so. Fans go off, the temp climbs back up and the cycle repeats.

If you are saying that the temp ran up to 235 and stayed there then I would tend to believe that the fans were not being energized (you should hear them).

Once the stat opens at ~190 or so there is no upper end control of temperature. If the stat is stuck closed, the car will overheat and no amount of driving will reduce that since there is no heat exchange in the radiator. If the stat is stuck open then then motor will take a long time to run up to operating temp and run too cold longer.

I agree
My 93 runs around 197 degrees. Stopped in the driveway today and it went up to 228-230 and the fan kicks on taking it down to 217, back out on the road it goes down to 194-197 again.

I think that is hot, but I guess thats close to normal.

Normal temps for that engine.

If you didnt clean the front of the radiator off, do it now. The space between it and the condenser gets clogged with dirt and debris.

Add a bottle of water wetter, change the thermostat to 160.

Only permanent fix; however, is wiring in a fan switch to make the main fan come on at a lower temperature. A computer reprogram is on the expensive side, so is a Hypertech Power Programmer, but they will do it also.

Or you can hit the AC which turns on the main fan.

I have a 94 LT1 on the hiway (I live in Houston, tx, really hot and really humid, all the time) and normally my temp with AC on runs around 197 in stop and go it will climb to around 212 once in a while. I was a little concered also when I first bought her, but she runs just fine and with the help of all these fine corvette owners here at the CAC I have learned alot...
my 2 cents :beer

have a good memorial day, and GOD BLESS THE USA!:pat
