My temperature gauge reads less than 100 at all times, it has been grounded and spikes, need a new sending unit right? Well, so I thought. I have purchased a new sending unit (aka switch temp. sender) from Advance Auto and installed....gauge still reads less than 100, they claim it may be a faulty sender. But, I am curious....

The previous owner installed a Jasper 300 hp engine in 2005...

Does a 2005 Jasper engine need a different sender than an original 1980 L-82?

It shouldn't, I don't think. A small block 350 is a small block 350. Does it move at all? or does it just go up to approx 100° and then just stop?

There should be tons of other threads in the forum here. I'd suggest using the search function to hunt 'em down. I too will do a search and see what comes up.

I'd also expect that before the end of the day or tomorrow sometime there will be a better answer to your question.

It does not move at all...stays on 100 at all times. Even when its been running for a while. I appreciate whatever help you can give.

I.R. readings look normal. To check the gauge - disconnect the wire at the sending unit, and the gauge should peg to full cold; then ground the end of the wire to the engine and the gauge should peg to full hot. If that checks out, the sending unit is bad; if it doesn't, the gauge is bad.

You might find an answer in this thread...
I found a bunch of threads (some about oil, some about coolant) by searching the C3 section for the words sending unit. You could also seach with words like engine temp, or thermostat (although that would probably return too many results). Sometimes ya need to get creative or specific with the words you are searching.

It ended up being the sending unit...it's replaced and now I have a temp gauge that works!!!!!! Thanks for all the help
