Specs at last Wow My 79 is rare :Twist if there is such a thing as a rare 79. :eyerole only 4062 built with a 4spd. I think half the fun is shifting gears but I do wish it was a 5 or 6spd at 100mph old betsy sounds like she needs another gear but I'm fresh out. :hb

I guess I am 4061!

Cool I didn't know that! How many L-82's with 4spd?

4,062 were equiped with the close-rato 4-speed.

There were 53,807 Vettes built for 79.

Of those 4,062 had close ratio 4-speed.

and 41,454 had an automatic trans.

That leaves 8,291 with the wide ratio 4-speed

for a total of 12,353 with 4-speed transmissions.

So how can I tell if I have the wide ratio or the rare close ratio?

Ok what happend to the 8291 Corvetts in 1979. There was 53,807 built 41,454 with auto 4,062 with the close ratio M21. and there was no wide ratio offered so what happend to the other 8,291????? Did they have to do like Fred Flinstone????

The wide-ratio 4-speed was standard equipment. If you did not order an optional trans that is what you got. There were two optional transmissions: 1) the close-ratio 4-speed (4,062 sold) and 2) automatic trans (41,454 sold). That leaves 8,291 with the standard equipment wide-ratio 4-speed.
