An expanded version of the CCC spent the day at Lars removing and replacing Brutal64's (Steve....he'll be registering here very soon) 1964 coupe suspension and brakes. The group included Lars, Steve, Kurt (Milehigh66), John G. (CO Sledgehammer), John M. (63ColoSW...soon to register), Greg (Greg454...he'll probably register soon), Lou (Vettacy), and yours truly. We started about 9:30 am and had everything out in an hour (a-arms, springs, front stab, all four drum brakes, idler arm, tie-rods, everything. The rest of the day was spent rebuilding, replacing bushings and ball joints, redoing brakes (a drum brake car all around) and rebuilding the MC, cleaning parts, painting, consuming brews before they could consume us, watching portions of the Daytona, eating pizza, cleaning up Lars drool (that Lars...you gotta be careful around him.... :gap ), and generally enjoying ourselves. The job was completed around 5:00 pm, although the real work took less time. No one can ever accuse the CCC of being all "business"..... :drink

Pictures: Since I showed up with a mostly dead battery in the digital, and John G.'s camera wasn't in much better shape, the picts were scattered. However, we did get a good array. In the next day or so, I will post up or link to some pertinent pics of the project. Besides I am to bagged to do anything else tonight........ (I know....wuss...). So, stay tuned to this thread..... :dance

The CCC's next project of significance.....an engine change-out on CO Sledgehammer's 64 roadster....from numbers match starter motor (327/300) to a killer, built 406..... :_rock :BOW

:beer to all.

A series of photos can be found in the Gallery. Check'em out!

'Puter Wizz CO Sledgehammer has loaded additional photos to his server to give you a feel for the entire day. There is even a shot of "He Who Is Never Seen" (the photog) at the cleaning wheel with an a-arm. Note also, that the "Eminent Dr. Grimsrud" is maintaining his usual shy and withdrawn persona... :BOW

I need to find people like you guys out here. My friend in the Denver area wants me to move there, but I kinda got used to the surf, sand and sun here. :cool

It's going to be great reading the reports and seeing pictures of you guys in action. :upthumbs

It sounds like a good time had by all (as usual) and lots of work done!

I'm looking forward to the pictures!!

Just wanted to let everyone know that it was my car that we worked on and believe it or not it was actually driveable afterwards. There was even a huge improvement in handling and braking, go figure. Thanks again to all the members of CCC for another job well done.

Steve

Am I sore today, Whole lotta work for one day.:bang

67Heaven, do you really want a bunch of drunks for a pit crew?

I hope the pictures are up soon so I can see just how bad I looked by the end of the day.

great pictures!!

It looks like you guys riveted the ball joints.

How did it turn out? I've heard it's very hard to replicate the factory rivets.

Ball Joints

Hi, Mac!

Nice to see you over here.

The new ball joints were not rivited. Steve's 64 is anything but correct or NCRS ready, so he went with the bolt on joints.

The project was a lot of work, but it went smoothly with this bunch. The CCC have been working together for some time, so, while we imbibe and have fun, we know how to get it done quickly and right. :cool :bu

to rivet or not to rivet

I know what a difference it can make in the ride to replace all those worn out suspension parts. As part of my frame-off resto, I replaced.... well, everything. There's not a single wear part that wasn't done and even a few non-wear parts got swapped as well (ie: my rear spring) so I was anticipating a huge change in the ride but nothing prepared me for the 'silence' of no longer having a million squeaking and creaking parts. It is wonderful!!

I went with bolt-in balljoints as well. I don't ever anticipate being NCRS judged (hence the powdercoated frame) so why beat myself up, trying to emulate factory rivets?

It's amazing how much work one can get done when everyone is moving in one direction, so to speak. Why, if you CCC guys took a notion, I bet you could raise a barn on a weekend (or at least, a garage)!

Welcome Brutal64

Congratulations to the whole CCC bunch. You have done what the casual part timer hobbiest would need all winter to finish in one short day. I'm impressed!! Do you do Body work?? I'd like you to stop by my place and have my '59 finished and painted by supper. I can waite till the next day for you to reassemble it.

Tom,
The car in the photos was also painted by the CCC. It did not have the front blinkers and had the three tail light grandsport touch added. The good Dr. Lars grafted back the front blinkers and Steve filled in the third tail light holes to make what you see in the pictures. We all did alot of sanding and prep work before Lars shot the paint and we painted it in one day. The real beauty of this group is how well we all work and drink together.
Next project is John's (cosledgehammer) 406 engine replacement and then on to painting my 66 vert.

Tom-Thanks for the welcome. As a matter of fact we do do body work. That's the beauty of this crew, we have one guy that does just about everything (Lars) and the rest of us are all pretty good shade tree mechanics and can pick up the stuff we don't know fairly quickly.

Steve

That is the purple people eater, Lars built it for a guys impala last summer and the man never picked it up. BTW, never leave the engine color choice up to Lars.
Beer probably cost more than the parts.

Kurt

Kurt,

Believe it or not there are actually some people around here that have accused me of dragging my feet on my '59 just because I took it apart in 1971. Can you believe that? Now that my shop is finished I have been working on it a little but the progress you guys make in such short time leaves me in awe. Great team effort.
