The Sledgehammer nose has undergone a few changes - "racers tape" was added during the top speed run for better air handling at 254mph :eek

Notice the *nostrils* have changed as well...

Enjoy :beer

It was mentioned last year that the nostrils were changed to eliminate "reverse airflow" out of that area at high speeds :eek

So what was the reason for the nostril change?? And what do the two holes in the hood do? Are those like the air intake for the intercoolers like some of you guys have on your B2K's??

It's interesting to understand how the laws of physics/aerodynamics caused the "tape" change for the top-end runs. I think they used a heavy duty version of the racer's tape. Mine was the light duty blue stuff... their's appears to be the heavy duty 200+ mile an hour tape. I hear they sell that at home depot for about 3 bux a roll... It's called "Duct" tape.. Check it out! :L

CC- How'd you find the link for that photos? They're hosted on a German server? I was doing the "backtrack" and viewing the other photos and when I went to far... "Shieskofh kraut" showed up on my screen!

I prefer duck tape:gap

I am multi- lingual , or at least my browser is ;)

Lotsa good pics there :upthumbs

reubenmc, the 4 holes in the nose feed air to the intercoolers. The intercoolers are mounted upright like the radiator on a stock C4.

The radiator is layed down just about horizontal, I am pretty sure those nose holes where the parking lights would normally be, feed the air to the radiator.
there are also 2 oil coolers mounted under each headlight area.

the 2 holes in the hood let the air from the intercoolers escape.

They ran the car in the rain, and saw the pattern of water comming back out, so they taped up the nose. thats why they are now fog lights I asume.

The nostrils changed because they sold the nose in the MAD catlog with a set of golf clubs. Or was it, you buy a set of golf clubs and get a sledgehammer nose free? I think the clubs were some $XXX,000.00

What I do notice in a lot of the pictures, the air dam that was built for the sledgehammer is missing. a black strip that went around the whole bottom of the nose.

Bill is correct w/ respect to the nostril's - Air flowed outward due to pressure / aerodynamics

The two holes in the hood are to let the air out, after flowing through the intercoolers mounted up front by the radiator (see pic below)

the "Car & Driver" package was a Speedster and a set of Callaway Golf Clubs - avail. through the mid America catalog in early 90's

Nose was also "offered" there as well - price for the nose alone was about $4,000

I am aware of only 2 noses like that early one - the original Sledge & Callaway B2K 89-005 - which also had the lower black strip and tinted front lenses

enjoy :m
